What brand laptops do you like.................
What brand laptops do you like?
Acer
HP/Compaq
Dell
Toshiba
Other(Name it)
Im looking into getting a new laptop. Since the hurricanes that hit SWFL my laptop has been acting crazy it got a little wet during the storms and the battery wouldnt hold a charge. So i replaced the battery and it has been working fine till about 2 weeks ago and now its doing the same thing again not holding a charge. The battery is less than a year old. Im trying to contact Energizer the maker of the battery but there Customer Service is not open on weekends. My current Laptop is an HP.
Thanks, Tim

MSI, I like mine, quick and amazingly beefy (Maya 6 runs great). They are also my preferred videocard and MB manufacturer; quality stuff.
If home-built was a legitimate option, that would be nice.

I have a Dell. It's big, it's heavy, it's called a "Desktop Replacement" type laptop. It's portable, but you wouldn't want to have to cary it around alot. The Inspiron series are more for the home user, the Lattitude series is more for the business user and has things like swapable drive bays. I like my Dell, and would buy another, unless presented with a better deal.
If you want something made for gamers, Alienware is good, but VERY expensive.
If I was shooting for a "Road Warrior" ultra-lite model, I'd probably go with a Sony Viao or a Mac. Almost everything is external, so that trims the weight of the actual laptop down quite a bit. If they'd start making more usable software, and drop the price, I'd go with a Tablet PC.
If you want to be able to run over it with a vehicle, survive a sandstorm, or drop it 4', go with a Panasonic Toughbook.

Well thanks for your replys so far.....Im still unsure what im going to do buy antoher laptop, replace the battery in my current one, or just build a new desktop computer.
Im not looking for a gaming computer just a laptop that will let me use the MS office programs for school.

Sometimes laptops are cheaper to replace instead of fixing them...not always, but sometimes.

The battery should still be in warranty; if not I would still just replace it. Maybe around 200 at the most.

I've always liked IBM thinkpads. I've had dells, and IMO the thinkpads blow them away. However, IBM recently sold the entire Thinkpad line to Lenovo, and there's no way to tell if they will keep making the same high quality products.

I had the BIG Dell for work at a previous job. It did everything well (except of course load games due to no 3D card), and it was a beast travelling.
I have a Toshiba now that is not quite as big and works fine, but it is still heavy.
A guy at work had an HP that always broke, so he bought another HP which is always broke.
We just travel with the little Mac now. It fits anyplace, hooks easily to WiFi or Ethernet, the Camera just plugs in and works and it does everything we want.
