We found our first cicada!
My 5 year old found the first of millions and billions of cicadas tonight on the driveway!

its not the right year for the south east tom, they are specific to regions from what ive read.

Well just read an article about how happy the animals in the Chicago zoo are to have the cicadas. Is the 17 year thing just some nominal guideline or for sure?
My cats eat moths, but all they do with grasshoppers is let them loose in the house.

Oh it is science. I do not know enough though to know if it is just midwest or cross country or cross world. They can almost predict what day they will arrive! It is pretty freaky.
Yes they definately provides food for many animals. They say even good for people!! ewww

ive seen pictures of some of them in honest plague proportions, its really disturbing when the ground moves.
but its different years in different parts of the country, we had ours a few years back and it really wasnt near as bad as the news made it out.
