why can I not keep my light fixture right on top of the tank, without raising it up?

You can give it a shot. Just watch your temp. Also is there covers so that water cannot splash up on the bulbs?

Yes there is a cover
and it has a fan. Also my tank is right on top of an air conditioning vent, maybe that will help!

I didn't scold her for that. That's pretty calm. She was just having some fun and wasn't hurting herself, so I let her be. I save the major scolding for more distructive/dangerous things. I took that video and she didn't even know I was standing there.

good news, when I put the new rock in the tank I knocked a tip of the new acro off so I glued it onto a rock for ya! It is really pretty. Brownish green with bright purple tips!
Now if only I keep it alive until you get here!

I wouldn't worry about the way your lights look. LOL The lights on my tank have 4 x 4's holding them over the tank. Been that way for about a year now.
