WAY OT,,Coyote control
Well, i figured out why the neighbor's dogs have been barking at all hours of the night, and my dogs have been on "edge" while outside at anytime,,,,
Coyotes!
As i live "rurally", with myself and surrounding neighbors having at least 10 + acres , a lot of area, not much "suburbia" to be had...
I took the 1 million CP light out last nite, to see what might be setting the animals off(the one neighbor/farmer's fowl have been extra noisy lately too)
I shone the light across the open farmland across the road from my house(50 + acres) and saw a dozen sets of eyes glowing back at me! Too low to be deer, and i have heard the ol' west type howlin' goin on at nite, once inna while,,
and see a lone coyote here and there in the area b4,,,looks now like we have a "pack"(dunno the word for a bunch o' them) patrolling the area.(these were fairly large ones to boot!)
All my dogs are inside dogs, only let them out to do their thing(mini-doxies)
and the German Shepherds are out of their pole barn/kennels only with me to work them,,,
Not to concerned about daylight confrontations, but lettin' out the lil dogs at night has got me concerned.(if anyone knows doxies, the welfare of the coyotes worries me LOL)
my property is "open" at the front, farm fenced on the other three sides(like that would stop coyote access) and the lil dogs go out in a open area, most times spread out over a decent open area, some times out of my sight of all four at one time.so i gotta do a moving watch over them anyway.(two of them like to "wander") the other to are "Stepford" dogs, no worry of straying.
My question is(after a long story/set-up)
Does anyone know of "coyote repellants"(sp)or anything that will make coyote(s) from roaming my property?
Been pretty lucky with opposums, racoons, fox. feral cats, etc. from visiting my property, can't say i've ever see them ,or signs of them around nearby,,but they are out there,,,(i think having the dogs around, leaving scents deters them)
I have a .22 rifle ,if needed, tho i would not fire on them if i just saw them around, only if they were close,or came up on them while out with the dogs.
(might aim high if i did see them get more bold)
I believe Coyotes are "varmit" classified here in my area, but am gonna check for a restriction,or season on them.
In no way want to kill them , just "cuz", just looking to protect what i have here,,,and try to deter them from visiting my property.
Not looking for trapping suggestions, just something to convince them to look/hunt elsewhere,,,,
Thanks

I can't rember if this works for cats or dogs, and I'm really not sure about feral, but if you have a zoo close buy, see if they'll let you have lion droppings so you can put them around the perimeter. There's something in there that's supposed to repell critters...just something I remember my parents telling me.
Call your local Department of Natural Resources and see if they know of any non-lethal solutions or capture/release programs.

Go get a roadrunner and let it loose on your property.... The coyotes should then kill themselves in variety of hilarious ways. You my want to put a couple of Achme TNT boxes out there as well.

Scary part is ,,,I thought about it,,
I know a place near a friends German Shepherd's kennel in Maringo Ill. that has exotic animals for films, commercials etc.Lions ,tigers, cougars ,giraffes, elephants, ostrich, and bears, etc.(i know "oh my" ) and thought of getting some specie of "patties" from them. all i can think of ,is getting stopped for a burnt out taillight,,,"what's in the garbage bag"
And of course, if i ask if it's for free,,,: "Watta ya think, @@@@ grows on trees?

I'm thinking this could turn out to be one of the all time funny threads . I've got to drive 25 miles home from work now, you know I'm going to be doing the Beep Beep thing the whole way Maybe I should strap one of those Acme rockets to the top of the car
