I spent the last 10 hours on top of a levee that had more than a foot over most of it when we arrived. While we stopped the water on our section it was all for nothing. The approx. 2 mile long levee built by farmers failed in numerous places after I had been there some 6.5 hours. Many others had been there much longer. Most of that time there was spent up to our knees in very thick mud and water that had who knows what in it. I am afraid my skin from the knees down may never unshrivel. I honestly thought about going to the car wash for my first shower. I will likely burn the clothes! To those that knowingly live in a flood plain: PLEASE MOVE! I realize it may be property that has been in your family for generations, but putting hundreds of lives at risk of drowning or disease is not worth it. If you must stay, it should be at your own risk!

To let you know what we were protecting:

1. Maybe 20 acres of corn
2. Small concrete company
3. About 10 soccer fields

Again, not worth the lives put at risk!

Eric, that is why I can empathize with people that live in flood plains and other areas prone to the weather, but, I have no sympathy at all for them. I live in a hurricane region, I know what can happen, so if it does, I expect no sympathy.

Another thing! The Weather Forecastors cannot predict a rivers crest any better than the weather. Supposedly we were suppose to crest with no more than 1 more inch. The river rose at least 6 more inches while we were there!

Thank You!

I am very familiar with the gulf coast after many years of more or less living there.

I feel that if the Gov't buys someone out once, they shouldn't get the same assistance again if they rebuild in the same disaster area (flood plain). You know the risk.

As bad as it makes me look, I don't think the guvment should buy them out the first time. They knew what they were getting into before they moved, or at least should have found out. If you knowingly live in a bad area, then why should the guvment bail you out when it goes south on you?

It is the way it has been so why stop it now. But give them warning now that it won't happen twice. Just my opinion.

Good morning, everyone. Coffee's on, bagles, cream cheese, and lots of jam. Fresh SC peaches and blueberrys from Jeff (Junkzoo).

Thanks to both of you guys for what you do! Eric - I think burning your clothes is a good idea. Hop, good luck on that challenge.

See you all later today.

Whatever, Eric, I'm calling you to help me sandbag the entire coast if a hurricane comes up the ship channel.

Morning everyone!
