That is one fast turtle. Can you get a turtle tame and friendly enough to keep its head out of the shell when you hold it?

Well, I for one LOVED your video clips! I've been a turtle-lover and collector all my life. We have 7 now in our little backyard turtle pond: A common snapper I raised from hatchling - completely docile and 2-1/2 yrs old, three red-ear sliders (like yours), a Mississippi Map, and a River Cooter.
Quacker: yes, mine eat from my hand, they keep their heads out when I hold them, they swim up and "grin" at me when I walk by...
Turtles are so cool!

I have a small koi pond in the backyard. Would a turtle stay in such a thing or just wander off and leave me? Do they get along with fist (7" - 10" Koi)? I have large rocks surrounding the pond and a small waterfall.

Last year, my husband and I pulled up lawn chairs to watch a box turtle lay eggs in my flower bed. Pretty cool! Huh?! I researched and found incubation period to be either 60 or 90 days(Iforget now). So we marked where the eggs were and marked the calendar and waited. When it was time, I gently removed the dirt, not really expecting to find anything. But we did! We found all three hatchlings just waiting under the dirt!!! Now that was really cool! We enjoyed them for a few hours and then released them under the damp shed back in the woods. That was en experience not too many have the priveledge of!!!! Every now and then one of the kids will say...."Remember when we had baby turtles?....."

How could you not like a turtle!! We used to catch a couple of snapping turtles and keep them in an old wash tub for awhile, and after we got bored with them(which kids do), we let them go back to the wild!!

quaker, I'd say yes, the turtles would just wander away, mine seem to be VERY curious, despite being completely tank raised, some people with ponds just make it so they can't get out, and some put up little 8-10" fences
the problem with ponds is that dogs like to get at teh turtles,b ut I"m guessing if you haven' thad that problem with the koi, then you don't need to worry, and the turtles won't touch the koi unles syou get a 24" alligator snapper or something like that

My turtle pond outdoors has slick sides that extend about 3-4" inches higher than the water. The waterfall and sunning rocks are in the middle. Without the sides, yes, they would wander off.
I used to have about 25 box tortoises in Louisiana in an outdoor area surrounded by three-high landscaping timbers, with a strand of dog-strength electrical fencing wire about 4" above the top timber. This kept the raccoons and opossums out, as well as prevented the cat from using it for a litter box. It was turned on for about 3 wks, then not much again. Never lost a turtle.
We also hatched baby turtles and baby king snakes and corn snakes. It's way cool to see them come out of their leathery homes.
My indoor water turtles (about 45, in Louisiana) lived with various Koi from 4" + and never hurt the koi. However, if Koi don't have the depth they need, they will likely jump.
