I'm trying to plan a winter in Montana vacation for a family of 4 (kids are 9 & 10) anybody have any recommendations? I've got some books but I'm finding it hard to narrow down where to go. Being a FL native I'm not a HUGE skiier

A great thing to visit is Yellowstone in winter. They let in about 400 sleds (snowmobiles) a day with guided tours. Book early, and there is lodging in West Yellowstone along with tours departing from there.

Glacier National Park is supposed to be stunning, but I am not sure about opening in winter. I know after the first good snow they close Jellystone.

Montana is pretty cold in the winter. I have only been to Flathead lake near Kalispell/ Glacier Nat Park. I really liked it there but I wasn't there in winter

Yep what Doug said. I lived right where Montana, Idaho and Yellowstone meet right outside of West Yellowstone for a year and it could get to 20 below pretty regularly. You really want to have snow tires for this trip and all the emergency stuff.

I don't necessarily have to be there in the heart of winter...just enough to have enough snow on the ground for a snowman or snowball fight!

Yellowstone is high on my list of priorities. Is yellowstone west an area of a town?

Yellowstone is a massive park. There are entrances hundreds of miles apart. West Yellowstone is a town in Montana that has the East entrance to the park. Montana is more a blustery cold place. If you want tons of snow to play in somewhere around the Great Lakes would be better.
