Let's just say there was this 97 Ford Explorer full time four wheel drive that a friend owns.

I think it's a chain drive transfer case (Can you confirm that?)

I also think that the chain is skipping teeth.

If I were to remove the front drive shaft can she still drive this car? Just make it a rear wheel drive?

New T case is around 2K and the car is not worth it (again)

Whiskey

From what I understand on these fords the output shaft on the transmition drives the rear wheels directally,.. and the chain in the transfer case is only to drive the front wheels.

I know the older Ford transfer cases are are chain driven. If you can remove the driveshaft at the U-joint and the yolk is physically attached to the case, you can drive it that way. Some transfer cases have a slip yolk. It that is the case, it will drain all the fluid while it is being driven.

I know how that goes. I just hit 30, and I want to shoot my self in some of my intro classes. Although I may be able to blend in better than most "non-traditional" students.

I'm trying to get her to burn this car! Luckily the car seems to be burning itself for her.
