She was one of my heros as well. I read an article about her and she said to enjoy food and life and pretty much scoffed at all this prepared "healthy" stuff. I think all those guys and gals on the food channel would be slaving away in a kitchen someplace without her blazing the trail.

Some excerpts from the Reuters article...
Asked by a radio interviewer once what her ultimate meal would be, Child said: "Red meat and a bottle of gin."
As the trend toward healthy eating grew in recent years, Child accused "health experts" who advised cutting out rich foods like red meat and butter as "nutritional Nazis." "I think these fake foods aren't worth eating," she said in 1992. "Either have the real thing and a little of it or have something else. I like real hamburgers and real meat, real butter. Eat everything. Have fun."

Wow! Thanks for this thread, Kevin. She was a real trip. I'm a veggie for personal moral reasons, but I basically agree with her philosophy. Lo-fat cheese is awful. Just eat lessof the real thing. And some of these other things taste like back-number cardboard.
Indeed, her legacy is wide spread.

My favorite show and one of my favorite things to prepare, was the show where they did Monkfish, which she presented as "the poor mn's lobster..." That one and the show with the "chicken Mellon" (she took a baking hen and remove the skin as one piece, made a melange of chicken hame cream cheese, etc and restuffed the skin, pushed the legs and armes back in, nd wrapped the "ball" with cooking twine so that it resembled a mellon, baked it. Served it much the same way we serve cantelope wedges ...
So sorry to see such a giant is no longer with us.
RIP Julia, xo

I saw that Emeril show. He is an awesome chef but seemed as humble as can be in her presence. Julia was just hilarious to watch and she was the boss.

I just loved watching Julia; Grandma and I used to watch together and then try some of the recipes.
Julia Child was a true original and legend in her own time.
