tons of footage..now what
I am trying to create a winter BMW tribute film. This sounds weird but I have a bunch of footage going 130 at night down a road with 12 foot ice berms and some other good stuff.
I would like to cut and paste the good stuff and mix in music. There are a few lines of vocals as well as Blitz making a cameo.
We have tons of PC's as well as a Mac and I hope not to pay for special software. Also, the music is on an Ipod.
Of course TRT will get to preview this before I post it on the BMW site. They are the equivalent of RC with fancy cars anyway.

I don't have an M car like our guru of all stuff scientific. I have a plain ol' 3 series coupe with the sport package and the world's funkiest 45 series snow tires.

I got a bit of wobbly footage, and a bit of dead stuff. I showed this to the folks at work and they said to cut the parts where the camera is on the seat and keep the rest. They voted to keep the background music, my talking and Blitz being all cool. This is gonna be one weird movie. Christy is gonna edit this thing.
The wobbly stuff was best I could do on this icepack, but that is how it looks.
I wanted to dub in stuff, but they thought this was a good drive (although perhaps not quite legal) around the block.

Everything turned to slush...so I need the fly by footage still when it is safe. Even with all that stability control stuff and nice snow tires this stuff on the road is cramping my filming style. Also, my night footage is useless for some reason because I worked the camera wrong. The stuff I do have is like the Blair Witch Project on ice, and I might just do it with that. I have the speedo and tach shots with the speed and rpm up to 130 but the outside ice with the headlights is all black.
Also, I still have no idea how to mix sounds with a Mac, and just have the mix of my dog, music over the car stereo and the engine noise.
I am not a perfectionist, but want to get this thing sort of okay. I can post some of the raw footage if anyone wants to see some pretty nice scenery that passes by fairly quickly..or my dog.

Are you asking about video editing software? For video editing I use Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, Canopus Edius 3.0, and Draco Systems Casablanca Prestige... the last of which is a stand-alone turnkey editor, and the first two are PC but could be Mac. I use Adobie Audition for Sound... excellent audio editor. Do you have an editing system on your computer? I'd just do a drop/keep (scrub through it and cut what you don't want, keep what you do want) and lay an audio track down after you've done that... if that sounds like what you want... OR just keep the audio that stays with your "kept" footage...??
Don't know if this helped at all... but there are some inexpensive editing systems out there... Scenalyzer lets you capture video and a dual audio track all at once off your miniDV camcorder for $40 ( www.scenalyzer.com ) I think is their Website... be sure to try it before you buy it... it captures DV only, not 8mm or VHS.

Thanks Shirley that helped a lot. I have the footage cut down now anyway so just need to work on the audio.
I will try and post a link to the video here soon as I figure out how.
