Depending on the gang, tears mean that they've lost friends or that they've killed someone and they cannot cry real tears for the person they killed. Since this person has both, my assumption would be that they've lost someone and they've also killed several people. I'm not an expert but I can usually tell you who has been in prison, who is a neo-nazi or who is in many gangs. I've learned that unfortunately because one of my largest clients is in Washington DC. I actually have a teen living with me in St. Louis because if he were to go home to live with this parents there, he will be killed. (He testified against a gang member). The kid is eating me out of house and home but I remember eating a lot when I was a teen too.

Most local PD's have pics of gang tatts and tagging marks to help in witness ID. You might want to check with the PD community liason in the area.
It's a sad thing that it's so prevalent in our communities.

You don't have to pay $17. I've certainly not done that or I would be more of an expert. That's why I said, go to the bottom. There's some good free info down there.

If the guy is hispanic I know that the biggest California gang gives out teardrops under the eye for each killing. Up here we have a few white supremists that give this place a bad name with their own tattoos everyplace.
I am sure any street cop will know it all or anyone that has worked in a prison.
I could never serve on a jury. Any sort of rap sheet of violent crime and the guy is guilty again.

Nice interesting link you posted Mantisfreak. Its a good primer for the unknowing. Its good for the average Joe to take note of such tats as it tells you the company your with as gangs are pretty much a part of almost every neighborhood.
There are tons of different tats and themes vary from on gang to the next. If you really want detailed info on the gangs in your areas and the tats they use consult the local authorities, especially if you live in a neighborhood that has a Gang Task Force. Although LEO's are quiet busy these days almost all will be happy to "data dump" on you...

Perry, unless the defendant takes the stand and testifies, the jury will not know about his/her criminal record. They rarely testify when they have a bad record. If they have lots of tatoos, their lawyer will usually have them covered up as best they can. I've seen juries get plumb irate when they turn someone loose or convict of a lesser charge when they find out about the record.
"Jailhouse tattoos" are usually pretty crude and are a dead giveaway about a person's past. So many people are having tattoos done these days; seems they are fashionable; that tats aren't always a sign of a checkered past. Gang tattoos are a different story. Military tattoos are more common now and I respect those.
For the record, I don't have any tattoos!!

I was around alot of that crap when I lived in Souther California. I work as a process server part time in East LA. Tear drops in conjunction with pistols have a definate meaning. Though they don't always signify that the persons killed somebody. Tears can mean either a friend lost or a killing. Handguns with initialls signify a friend who was killed in a shooting.
