I would think you need to do that in person
"drive in to tell them your sick and can't use the phone"

Maybe you could email to say that your phone had a catastrophic existence failure?

I was all cought up but I got one nightmare job that's taken my full attention for 2 days and now I'm behind,.. I'm not catching up today,.. but monday I'll probably stay late and get back current.
