speeding ticket!!!!
Man, today I got a lousy speeding ticket! It makes you feel so small in this world. Speeding tickets suck and they are a hassle, but I don't understand why people get all mad when they get one. You know you were speeding! He got me fair and square though. No complaints, 81 in a 65 is a fair enough ticket.

I got one once... 50 in a 35 - coming home from Church on a Sunday, no less - and I was trying to change lanes to the right to make a right turn and was running out of road -- the guy beside me kept mirroring my speed and not letting me over, so I punched my V8 to get past him and WHAMMO - laser detector went crazy, blue lights came on behind me .... Cop was "nice" though and only wrote the ticket for 14 over limit... saved me points Of course the guy who was beside me, who was in the obligatory right turn lane, and DIDN'T... didn't get stopped
Fought it in court, asked to see the device calibration (which they did not have, ergo no proof beyond a reasonable doubt) and should have been dismissed but our town has a Kangaroo Court and the judge overruled my request for evidence I could have appealed but for $56 it wasn't worth another morning off work...
Everybody should have their day in court though - there's always the chance that the officer will not show up, or that if you ask for proof of calibration, the judge will do the right thing and dismiss if they don't have it.

Show in court, dress like you work hard but are not well off, be humble and take your knocks. The judge has in every case reduced my fine when I showed in person and pled guilty.

Many (but not all!!) municipal courts will allow you to attend traffic school and dismiss the ticket after paying costs if it's your first offense...You have to ask, though!

I got one doing 73 in a 55 about 3 weeks ago. In Indiana you can pay extra for a defered ticket. Which means you pay $162 and they hold the ticket for 1 year. If you don't get another for one year it gets thrown out. If you get a ticket in 1 year you have to pay both tickets. I am lucky becuase this happend in southern indiana and I live in NW indiana. It goes by counties so I won't be in that county for well over a year anyways.

im a law enforncement officer,,,and many times you cannot get out of it, there are at times mitigating circumstances, and a court will listen. but i have also seen towns where court day is referred to as payday, and they love oyu to argue, that way you pay the ticket and court costs. sometimes its better to admit to yourself "i got caught",,,even if this one isnt quite right,,there are many times you shoulda been caught,,,law of averages always catches up.

I got a question for you. What about the absolute inaccuracy of radar? A 1/4 - 1/2 mile down the road, the radar wavelength can spread to 2-3 lane width, simple physics and this is true. How does an officer know which car they are tagging? I ran into an issue yesterday where I and another car got tagged. We were side by side and he was passing me and then slowed. How would a cop know which one was going the fastest? If car A was tagged at 65 and car B was driving 62, then car B getting a ticket for 65 would be illegial in my book. I drive a WRX and the other car was an Accord so I can bet it would have been me getting pulled over just because of the car I was driving. We did not get pulled over. It was something that has been in my mind since yesterday. I always watch my speed in that area but I will not lie and say I never speed elsewhere.
Of course laser is much more accurate and you are mostly out of luck if you get tagged with laser.
just curious and thanks...

In my youth I got quite too many tickets as being a hellion and having a military paycheck to spend on fast cars and motorcycles was a pretty flashy combination. One thing I never did was get upset at the law officer, admitted my misbehaviour and was polite in court. In every case I was offered some sort of a reduced fine, and in one case the peace officer wrote that my demeanor was polite and the judge dismissed the ticket.
There was an article once in Car and Driver if I recall and one of the rules was to never be within the top 15% of speeders. Doing this and leaving a lot of room lets me travel pretty quickly in my flashy German car without a problem. I must have had at least 20 tickets in my 20's and then have had a clean driving record for the last ten years.
With a car like a WRX I would be looking into racing in SCCA Solo II. The worst thing that can happen is that an orange cone perishes. Once a month you get to let your yah's yah's out. I finished mid pack usually but you don't have to tell your friends that you show the pictures to.

SCCA would be nice but I simply don't have time for it. I need to clarify that I was a car driving 62 in a 55, not a speed that gets you pulled over in that area. I had my cruise set. I do speed in other areas but nothing crazy. Usually stay under 70. But, I would love to take this car on a track and see how it really does.

Yeahh...
I couldn't drive in the state of NC for a few years, I had something similar to tasher's deferred ticket, they called it a Prayer of Continuance". My attorney brother was good enough to do some representation for me and got me out of a reckless speeding ticket there (142 mph, but it WAS ON wide-open-limited-access interstate with no traffic: Kids, don't do this at home.) Long story short, you can walk away with your license after paying fines and court costs (it was NOT cheap) and they tell you if you get stopped for ANY offense, you get the max fine and whatever jail time for BOTH offenses...
I was much younger then...

Oregon doesn't technically have speed limits. We have signs and all, but they leave off the word limit, because in some cases it's ok to go a bit faster, and you can actually argue that in court. They typically won't let you get away with more than 5 mph over the 'limit' or even a few over in school or construction zones, or depending on the weather. If you're on the freeway or Interstate most cops looking for speeders will wait for someone going 10 or more over the 'limit' before getting off their asses. Can't blame them really.
I hear Montana used to have this thing where if you got pulled over for speeding a $5 bill would get you out of it. Official and everything. Anyone else heard of this?
