Songs in the Key of Life
OK its been a while since we have had a song thread so I will start, rules are simple, what song defines either your life or stages in your life.
60's The Fool- Quicksilver Messenger Service
70's Aqualung- Jethro Tull
80's Peaceful Easy Feeling/Desperado
90's Queensriech- Operation MindCrime/Garth Brooks ,no Fences album
2000's the song that most sums up my life is Tim McGraws "Cowboy in Me"
"I dont know why I act the way I do
Like I aint got a single thing to lose
Sometimes Im my own worst enemy
I guess thats just the cowboy in me
I got a life that most would love to have
But sometimes I still wake up fightin mad
At where this road Im heading down might lead
I guess thats just the cowboy in me
The urge to run, the restlessness
The heart of stone I sometimes get
The things Ive done for foolish pride
The me thats never satisfied
The face thats in the mirror when I dont like what I see
I guess thats just the cowboy in me
The urge to run, the restlessness
The heart of stone I sometimes get
The things Ive done for foolish pride
The me thats never satisfied
The face thats in the mirror when I dont like what I see
I guess thats just the cowboy in me
Girl I know theres times you must have thought
There aint a line youve drawn I havent crossed
But you set your mind to see this love on through
I guess thats just the cowboy in you
We ride and never worry about the fall
I guess thats just the cowboy in us all"

Naw go with gut feeling, you dont have to do decades in deference to the YOUNGER kids, its just that being older than dirt I had to pare my list down there is no recordings of most of what I listened to as a kid

I'll need to think as well
so many songs, nothing is popping to the top

Why are there so many
Songs about rainbows
And whats on the other side
Rainbows are visions
Theyre only illusions
And rainbows have nothing to hide
So weve been told and some chose to
Believe it
But I know theyre wrong wait and see
Someday well find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me
Who said that every wish
Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star
Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what its done so far
Whats so amazing
That keeps us star gazing
What so we think we might see
Someday well find it
That rainbow connection
The lovers the dreamers and me
All of us under its spell
We know that its probably magic
Have you been half asleep
And have you heard voices
Ive heard them calling my name
Are these the sweet sounds that called
The young sailors
I think theyre one and the same
Ive heard it too many times to ignore it
Theres something that Im supposed to be
Someday well find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

Hmm...I need to think, too.
Maybe this isn't what you were going for, Doug, but one that haunts me is "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" as sung by the one and only Roberta Flack.
But then there's "Someone to Watch Over You" by Ella Fitzgerald.
Nope, that's not what you're going for. But those songs speak to me.
I need to think more.

No deep thinking here;
Willie Nelson
On the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again
Goin' places that I've never been
Seein' things that I may never see again,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.
On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way
And our way
Is on the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
On the road again
Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway
We're the best of friends
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way
And our way
Is on the road again
Just can't wait to get on the road again
The life I love is makin' music with my friends
And I can't wait to get on the road again
And I can't wait to get on the road again

I am sure that most of you have a song, maybe not your favorite but on reflection sums up your life experience or feelings, a song that will always stop you in your tracks and stir in your gut.

I have to say This is my favorite
What do you say when it's over
I don't know if I should say anything at all
One day we're rollin' in the clover
Next thing you know we take the fall
Still, I think about the years since I first met you
And the way it might have been without you here
And I don't know if words from me can still upset you
But I've just gotta make this memory stand clear
I know I'm leavin' here a better man
For knowin' you this way
Things I couldn't do before, now I think I can
And I'm leavin here a better man
I guess I always knew I couldn't hold you
But I'd never be the one to set you free
Just like some old nursery rhyme your mama told you
You still believe in some old meant-to-be
Still I'm leavin' here a better man
For knowin' you this way
Things I couldn't do before, now I think I can
And I'm leavin' here a better man
Yes I'm leavin' here a better man
For knowin' you this way
Things I couldn't do before, now I know I can
And I'm leavin' here a better man
Yes I'm leavin' here a better man

and this one
You called me up from Amarillo,
Said you were comin' to town,
I thought I'd like to tell you hello,
And drive an old friend around,
I pulled up to the airport,
Confident and cool,
But when you stepped off that plane,
I knew I was your fool,
(chorus)
My little Texas tornado,
Blowin' me away again,
I swore it wouldn't happen again,
But I looked at you and then,
I'm like a tumbleweed,
In a wild west Texas wind,
You're blowin' me away,
again,
You're lyin' with me in Atlanta,
Such a beautiful life,
You play me like a piano,
I'll always let you get by,
I know I'll go through hell girl,
When you find someone else,
But right now I'm in heaven,
And I can't help myself,
(chorus)
My little Texas tornado,
Blowin' me away again,
I swore it wouldn't happen again,
But I looked at you and then,
I'm like a tumbleweed,
In a wild west Texas wind,
You're blowin' me away,
again
I'm like a tumbleweed,
In a wild west Texas wind,
You're blowin' me away,
(fade)
