Lemme see...the girl I was with took all my stuff, left her dog and ran off with her WoW BF. She played so much she stopped brushing her teeth and hair and could not function.
My occasional dorf was a level 60 but not flagged to kill whoever the latest big guy was and I got left behind with three hours every three days or so.
Those games are fine in moderation but destroy lives just like any other addiction. Oh well...best thing to do with an addict is toss em to the curb with no regrets and no second chances. It didn't work because umm...neither one of them could keep a job, but tough toenails.
The game is fun, but the commitment is way too much.

It is very cleverly designed to provide just enough rewards and lead you to a glimpse of the next reward. The team of psychiatrists at blizzard that help develop the game content understand addiction very well.
Personally, I find it to be a fascinating study on human nature as well as computer interaction. From a technical point of view as a network programmer what they've accomplished is astounding.
