Skunked Dog????

Okay, we have a skunk that roams around this part of the neighborhood. Tonight the smell came on very quickly in the living room. Nothing too unusual. Later we let the hound in and he started immediatly rubbing his face on the carpet and when I opened the door to let him in there was a very strange smell outside.
Charlie (the hound) has blood all over the corners of his mouth and his lower jowells are raw there. plus he has a bit of skin gone around his nose but not much. He doesnt smell like skunk but that strange smell is on his breath and around his head.
The smell is a mix of skunk but mostly its a kind of almost electrical fire/chemical smell. Very strong and localized to the back patio are. No smell in the front of the house or side yards. The other dog went out and didnt freak or get all protective like he would if he smelled something around.
The smell was strong enough to get to my taste buds. I want to think skunk but it is a strange smell, Ive been around plenty of skunked dogs and such and its just different. Like I said, almost electrical fire or the smell of two chemicals that shouldnt get mixed did.
Any ideas?
The carper doesnt stink where he rubbed, got the blood out and Charlie seems fine, his mouth isnt sensative and he doesnt pull away, hes acting normal. We have looked all over the yard with the halogine shop lights and mag lights and cant find anything, except there is a far corner that has that scent, it is musky along with the skunk smell also. very odd.
I hope someone has an idea, maybe we just got messed up sniffers from the strength of skunk smell?

Hmmm, did a bit more looking around in the yard. Found a spot where the dog was digging under the fence. All I can figure is there was a skink on the other side and he got sprayed in the face and then rubbed it all over the concrete of the patio. Great, we have an art show here on Saturday....

No chance any of your neighbors have one of those underground electrical fences or anything like that? Could the dog have been digging and hit a live wire?

Just wondering...

I think the smell was so **** strong it messed with the old factory! I think my sniffer was just put outa wack by the strength of it. He got skunked, dog stinks, patio stinks and house stinks (to a lessor degree) Going to bleach the patio now as that seems to be the worst spot. Then gonna wash our genious hound with a mix of baking soda, peroxide and dish soap.

Well I took a garden spray, the type that you fill and then attach to the hose, and filled it with bleach and put it on the highest setting. That took care of the patio and area. that was the worst spot. Next is the dog with the baking soda, soap and peroxide mix. When I found this on line is said it could change the color of your dog. The writer said he/she knew of a black lab that is now a chocolate!

Oh and I think this all came about cause I overfed Charlie yesterday and he still had some food in his dish. Musta been a hungry skink.

tomato juice is a wives tail. It was believed to work because after a while the nose would go into "olfactory fatigue" Basically you cant smell the skink smell so much cause the nose shuts down to it so the smell of the tomatop juice wouldoverpower it because the nose isnt shut downt to it.
1 quart of peroxice, 1/4 cup of baking soda and a tablespoon of dish soap left in the fur for 5 min. then rinse and repeat as needed. I figure about 6 gallons of peroxide and he should be tollerable!
I go5t the carpet clean, I used the same stuff I use for the dog and did it like 3 times with our steam cleaner then a few times with regular carpet cleaner. came out great. Got the patio bleached and no more smell there either, just the dog now. He wont be in the house for a while.
