I know this is a family forum so I'll chose my words carefully
Having worked with service dogs for many years, many of whom seemed to track and find skunks better than missing people... I found that douche works the best to get the smell out. I would keep unscented massengil(spelling) around the house at all times! The clerk always gave me a funny look when I (being male) came through the checkout line with 4-5 containers

It doesn't take it all out, but it's the best. Then a little fabreeze around the house (it was always my cars) really helped!

Actually we did, and the dogs long since passed away. But the collar was still around about a month ago and i used it to take the new golden retriever pup to the river to go swimming. On the way home i smelled skunk and noticed it was that old collar. Its pitched now.

Be careful with Febreeze around aquariums!!!!! You can wipe out your tank with that stuff.
There are products on the market for skunk stuff - I realize I'm 5 days late into this thread - but that smell can remain for what seems like forever.
Back home we had a litter of baby skunks that was orphaned. That was an adventure - we gave them wet cat food on pie plates to wean them - and eventually they left and went on their merry way, EXCEPT the one that my dog found, killed (after it sprayed) and rolled in it. 30 minutes before I had my service club group arrive for a dinner party
You can probably buy it anywhere now, but at the time I could only get it at a vet's - "Skunk Off"
http://www.healthypets.com/skunbythorco.html
It worked wonders. In fact a few years ago I was at a trade show and saw a booth with the stuff, and I stood there telling people how wonderful it was - the guy gave me a bunch of free bottles! We don't have many skunks around here so it hasn't been an issue - but back home skunks were *everywhere*.
I have also used Skunk'd shampoo on the dog
http://www.dogodor.com/catalog_c54427.html
That worked well too but I didn't like the smell of the shampoo either!
I had both things on hand back home, and not too long after the killed skunk incident, the dog came bounding home with her face dripping wet... yep, sprayed right in the kisser. We had a big property that she had free run of - and she'd find the darndest things... anyway, the Skunk Off worked wonders again.
I think the "active ingredient" in tomato juice is citric acid. Both those products I mentioned have a lot of citrus in them - I guess the acid cuts the stench.
If things are still smelling kinda high - give those products a try
