Sirius satellite radio
I have this service at home and really like it. Has anyone installed one of these in their car? I want to put one in my company truck but I may be getting a new truck this winter and don't want to go do it if I have to pay for an installation. What's involved in an automobile installation? From what I've read on their website it appears that it uses a wireless connection to your existing radio speakers.

Dont know about wireless Rick, I see a lot of the mid grade and up recievers are setup to jack it in , and have the face plate controls to activate it. I dont think its that difficult, I have seen several installs done by people I would let service my 8 track

They claim to be plug-N-play and the unit mounts like an i-pod. I'm guessing it transmits on an fm frequency through my existing speakers but I'm not sure.

Troy got one for graduation...but didn't order the sirius service, although it's sirius-capable. Best Buy had a good one on sale and installed it-- for a fairly reasonable price if I remember correclty. Can't remember the price. there's nothing wireless about it that I know of. Troy loves the deck b/c it plays everything in any format he puts on CD -- and is very user-friendly while driving, includes a remote.

Shirley we get the service through our home satellite service and it's great. Not only music but talk and sports too. Not all that expensive either. The best part is it's commercial free.

The plug & play tuner can be set up three different ways. It can be put into the boom box to use in a home or office setting, it can be hardwired into a cars head unit if the headunit has an Aux feature or it can be used with a wireless FM transmitter (like many CD changers are). In the car you'll get your best sound quality hardwired, the transmitter will basically sound like FM radio without commercials & with a better selection.
I don't have Sirius, but that a little info from when I was thinking about satellite radio.
Crutchfield's site can help tell you what you need.

Do they make an adapter for it to put in your antenna connector. A while ago add on CD players used an in line connector and you would tune the radio to a certain frequency at an extreme end of the dial and it seemed to work.

Yeah, I guess that's what I meant by the wireless FM transmitter. The Crutchfield site explains the options better than I can.

I like the idea of buying one receiver and being able to use it in any vehicle with the car kit.

Yeah, a lot of folks seem to go that way & are pleased. I like the idea of being able to use it in my car & then pull it out & bring it into the office by plugging it into the boom box. Just can't decide if I want to get satellite or not.
