My aunt wasn't too impressed with me. I had to walk 1/2 mile to the store and buy 10 large tins of Tomato juice and carry them back and then help give my cousin a bath to get rid of the smell.

To a 10 yr old ... carrying 10 lg. tins of juice is pretty heavy and hard on the fingers after 1/2 mile.

I grew up in the country in Ontario, Canada. My aunt and uncle lived in Toronto. My aunt specifically sent me to a small grocery store further away from their house than the closest one. That was part of my punishment... the distance I had to carry those bags of Tomato juice tins.

It was a slow, gradual uphill trip back to the house too.

I was on a float trip with my frineds family when I was abut 13 and a snake fell out of a tree and into his grandmother and aunts canoe. They jumped out in a hurry. We killed the snake with an oar only to find out whatever kind of snake it was carried llve babies and not eggs. The little ones were everywhere in the canoe and they were not happy about their mother. 3 to 4 inch snakes can be just as ticked off as a full grown one.

We also made dirt cookies one day and used rabbit pellets for the chips. Didn't take long to convince the neighbors 4 year old to eat them.

LOL

I put a snake in my coat pocket on a day that was quite cold, forgot about it and then went to school. The heat in the school warmed up the blood in the snake and then it climbed out of my coat pocket. Pandemonium ensued. (Only time I ever went to the prinicple's office and I was thankful that Mr. Cashion's "spanking machine" was just rumor).

NOT learning from prior experience with animals and school, in Junior High while I was waiting for the school bus, I was trying to see how far I could throw apples down the street. One apple went through a tree and but horrible luck, a bat dropped to the street dead. I said to myself, "I'm taking this to school to show Mrs. Langdon, my biology teacher". Pandemonium ensued.

Same biology teacher, same year. We took a field trip to a pond to catch various organisms to look at with microscopes. Well, guess who caught a lamprey and put it in a bucket. When we got back to class, I reached into the bucket to grab the lamprey. It had a hissy-fit, swam around faster than the wind and sucked itself onto the back of my hand. I was so startled that I shook my hand so violently that the lamprey was launched into the center of the class. Pandemonium ensued.

Oh, the stories I could tell....however, is anyone else seeing a pattern here with me and wild animals?

Now that we have started telling our stories I just don't think the ones of my kids are interesting enough. In a few years that may be different.
