during a holiday (I think it was Easter)
myself and 2 of my cousins were "playing outside"

when we got home, we were asked what we were playing
we repied "Baker"

what we were actualy doing was, in our Easter best's
climbing under the deck to collect mud
then we packed the mud into buckets
and tried to see if we could make a sand castle with said formations

and since I was the oldest at 6, we were not very neat about it

I tried to jump my bike over the creek behind my friends house. Problem was it was 20 feet down to the creek and probably 40 feet to the other side. Guess I don't need to explain if I made it or not.

Different hamster, different house, but after Daisy died, I put her in a shoebox and all the neighborhood kids came for her "funeral" AND cremation. Set the box on fire and let it burn until I couldn't take the thought anymore of poor Daisy incinerating! We put it out and .......YOU DON"T EVEN WANT TO KNOW!

There was a large hill to pick up speed and the ramp at the edge of the creek was made out of a 4x8 sheet of plywood. I thought I could make it.

Snakes, mud .... sounds like me growing up on a 125 acre farm. I was always into something and a mess!

Catching frogs and tadpoles in the pond by wading in after them. Catching newts under the twigs and leaves in the muddy swamp.
Catching garter snakes.
Of course I had to take all these "treasures" to the house to show Mom! She wasn't always pleased.

Chasing the chickens or baby pigs around the barnyard.

Building forts in the barn out of the hay bails. Mom wasn't pleased with this either as she'd have to spend an hour trying to brush all the hay and tangles out of my hair.

Then there was the one winter my brother and I went skating on the pond... my brother picked up a big rock and went to slide it out on the ice to where I was. The rock didn't exactly slide across the ice ... it skipped. When it landed near me, the ice broke and in I went! Thank goodness the pond wasn't very deep and my brother was able to pull me back out onto the ice surface. The walk back to the house wasn't fun either. My bulky snowsuit had absorbed water like a sponge and it was very cold outside. I didn't quite make it to the house and my suit froze solid. Needless to say I stood about 50 feet from the house screaming my head off because I was freezing too and I needed to get Mom to come get me because I couldn't move. I was not a happy 8 yr old that day!

stupid bike tricks

the neighborhood gang was pretty ruthless when it came to bike stunts
and growing up in the country, we were pretyy creative with them as well

1. wheelie competitions.
see how far you could ride on 1 wheel. it always resulted in at least 2 people wiping out on the gravel road.

2. Bike Jousting (yes I said jousting) using catttails (the pond plant, not an actual, oh nevermind)
this was fun, becuase if you could jam it through the spokes on the front tire
you could flip your opponents bike, sending him several feet in the air
and back onto said gravel road

3. how far you could ride with no hands or standing on the seat

One time my brother had a few friends over and they were playing in the barn. They were up in on the very top of the hay (50ft) and they caught an old tomcat that had been sleeping up there. They took a bandana and tied the 4 corners to the cat's legs and threw him out the window/door near the roof. That cat fell almost 70ft.... bandana acting like a parachute .... legs just a running in the air! He hit the ground and took off!! Not injured a bit and lived another 10 yrs with a goal to always either avoid or terroize my brother when it got the chance.
