Should we find out???
As many know Brooke and I are expecting a baby in January, we have our ultrasound coming up next week.
Should we find out the gender of our baby?
Brooke and I have our thoughts on this already, but I want to hear what the great TRT people think.
Feel free to post thoughts if you would like

when asia was to be born, i wanted to know. it was easier , gave us more time to decide on her name. it was also easier to plan, and better, imo, that way we could buy the proper clothes, have her room setup for a girl, and got the right stuff at the baby shower. and of course, family was ALWAYS picking up something and bringing it over
so, to me, i would have been excited to find out when she was born, but yet, it made life easier knowing in advance.

HECK yeah,
this way the grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc etc have more time to get stuff for the lil one! It works this way, they are out shopping and they see the cutest outfit . .. . . . OH! I have to get that for the baby! Now, that happens everytime they go shopping, and you have plenty of new clothes for the baby! Believe me you will need them! Always changing them out of spit up clothes, etc etc, over run diaper clothes etc etc. It is just how it works.
Plus if your doing a nursery you can plan the design. You do not want race cars in a girl's room. You both will be too tired after the baby is here to do much of decorating etc etc.
Names as Jay said; This way you can pick out the a few of the ones you really like. However, it has been known to happen before, where the docs are wrong and it comes out the other sex.
But in my experience, it was just sooo much easier to get ready for the baby!

We never wanted to know and both kids never cooperated with anyone. So no one ever knew what gender they were till they were born. Jonvieve, our second child, actually was only in a position to be "seen" once and she kept her hands ocver her private parts. So the ultrasound tech tried to get a scan of her face and she moved her hands in front of her face. He tried 3 times to see either her face or if she was a girl or boy and she just kepot moving her hands back and forth between the 2 places so he was not able to get a scan of either... :funny)

HECK NO!! i absolutely did not want to know. i think this is the last great surprise in the world! it justs more to the excitement at the time of birth. we also had both G-mothers in the room, and they were going nuts trying to see what Ryan was going to be. i would not have changed it for the world. for the second we may find out (not anytime soon) just so we know how soon we need to add onto the house. but for the first we did not see any need to find out.
of course i had to go with Nikki to all of the ultrasounds to make sure she did not cheat and get a pic.

That's the best part, 'cause it sure ain't the morning sickness, indigestion, backaches and 14 hours of labour...

i felt no pain at all during the entire 10 months asia was being carried. i never got sick, never had indigestion, and never had backaches. the only pain i felt during the 24 solid hours of labor, was my legs getting sore from going up and down the stairs to go outside and smoke
hey, contratulations jas!

The only pain I had was trying to button my pants after I gained 40 lbs of sympathy weight!!
For our first child we were going to have be a surprise, but when the doctor was doing the ultrasound and said 'oops' and moved the wand real quick, we kind of figured it would be a boy. On the second time, my wife was spotting a touch of blood so we had to get an ultrasound. So the Doc was measuring the size and growth of everything and it all looked good. She was moving the wand around and mentioned that it sure moved around alot for being early in the pregnancy. That's when she says 'Wait a minute' and rolled the wand to a different spot. That's when I said 'Oh s***'. Surprise - twins!! We decided at that point we should find out the gender.
So, now that I confused you, I vote no!

Definitely not!
Geoff was very emphatic about not finding out (in case you couldn't tell from his post), and in the beginning I could have gone either way. But we had so much fun playing with all the old wives tales (are you carrying out front or wide? high or low? bad morning sickness or no morning sickness?), and listening to people's predictions, and driving our parents crazy, that I would let it be a surprise again in a heartbeat.
Okay, so you don't get any gender-specific clothes before the baby is born, but that doesn't stop people from helping out, and our parents found plenty of other stuff to get us besides little pink dresses and "Daddy's Little Boy" overalls (and of course they ran out and bought the overalls as soon as he was born!).
(sorry this is getting longer than planned) One final suggestion. If you plan on NOT finding out, and if you can stand to not peek, I wish we had gotten an ultrasound of Ryan from "that" angle, to have for later. Geoff would have guarded it with his life, but it would have been nice to have later on to add to the baby stuff.
My final thought, take it or leave it, is that it was SO COOL to hear the words "It's a BOY!!!" Being squealed by the new grandmothers as they jumped around the room with excitement. As Geoff said, this is the last great surprise in life. Why spoil it?
Unless, of course, you are the type who peeks at your Christmas presents...

Can't trust the data... A friend at work found out... they were going to have their 3rd girl...oops, It's a boy.
Both of ours we waited, it was fun for everyone to guess based on heart rates, how high the baby was carried...any other theories.
By the way, this was the most emotional moment of my life, I cried uncontrollably for 5 minutes. The nurses were trying to console me by asking the babies names. Still gives me goose bumps just thinking about it.
