Ok this may be inappropriate to say about a bike, but wow, it's pretty! (And shiny, too!)

Have fun Don and congrats

Keep that shiny side up off the pavement and wear a helmet always. One saved my life once and I still spent three months in the hospital and got skinned alive.

Looks like an awesome ride!!!!!

Perry I agree 100%... My dads a doctor and he is far more than willing to let me know what can happen on a bike...

I've been riding since I was about 8 although this is the first road bike I've owned. In 2 days I've clocked close to 100 miles and love it... Rides smooth and plenty of power to spare...

I've been riding on the road since I was 14 (Harley's)
A few facts.

Motorcycle make up 5%-7% of the motoring population and are involved in less than 2% of accidents

The number 1 most common injury that happens when a bike has an accident is back injury's.

The number 1 injury that happens in an automobile accident is head trauma, but you don't wear a helmet in a car....?

Food for thought

Nice bike.

I've been riding these two-wheeled suicide machines since about 1965. I build customs and repair all makes for a living. And I put on 10 to 15 thousand miles/year. (pretty good for where I live) Here is the advice I always give:

1. Keep your head and ...(butt) wired tightly together. No booze or Mexican agriculture when riding. Most of the buddies I've buried over the years had a snoot full when they died.

2. Always assume that every car is being driven by an idiot. Not true of course, but expecting the worst from them helps.

I don't want to disagree Mafiaman but I had a bike that was fully insured, I took motorcycle safety, and completed the initial round of roadracing classes at willow springs. My bike had only six thousand miles on it.

A road crew moved the cones with fresh oil on the pavement, I had a new rear tire and when changing lanes the rear slid a bit going 70 and the rear brakes locked up early. There was nothing I could do. My bike went 200 yards and I bounced along for 100.

I spent three months in the hospital..lost my elbow and destroyed a knee and shoulder..got skinned alive and went to physical therapy for a year. The doctors wanted to remove my arm but a doctor that served in 'Nam was able to save it.

I keep hearing folks say you can lay your bike down and all this stuff but my heart goes out to every biker out there for his safety.

If it is 110 degrees or something it does not matter...wear a helmet and padded leathers and ride defensively.

Cruisers seem to be the safest as a nice country road just tooling around keeps you away from cars that cannot see you and away from nasty road hazards. These guys cutting lanes on the latest rice rocket are just a donor waiting to happen.

Off my stumpbox and my experience

I don't see where you disagreed with me, I am sorry for your ordeal.

I get my statistics from the anti- helmet law rallies I've been attending for years. ( some times twice a year)

I have nothing against people wearing helmets, and if your a weekend rider I strongly encourage it! But I don't believe it should be a law.
Keep them laws off my body.

Best trauma school in the world.

Just an inside view, I do not know the statistics for motorcycle accident trauma vs automobile trauma, but I do know that most of the non-recovering long term closed head injuries we see in neuro units are usually motorcycle victims, but then again, I read in the paper today that we (SC) have the highest per capita alcohol related injury rate in the US, attributed to the minibottle law in this state (free pour vs 1.7 oz mini bottles, you figure which drink is the strongest... ) We have seen many injuries where patients have skidding injuries and survive the cabesa on the pavement with helmets. The most common non-recovering injury with patients that come in from motorcycle trauma have been associated with closed head injury to the brain from unpadded bouncing. The issue for medicine in general is not that there is some unusually high injury rate per 100 patients, it is the preventability of those injuries. Considering that the majority of the patients that require long term hospitalization do not have enough insurance to cover their hospitalizations, this represents a large drain on the insurance industry, hospitals and emolissiary agencies that support hospitals (and your tax dollars as well).

I have no problem with any issues that involve granting full freedom of choice, and I support the unlimited use of this when supporting the right to choose one's habits and vices. It is when they affect my freedom of choices or my pocket book that I take issue with one's unrestricted freedoms. As long as the consequences of one's choice are limited to that individual, they can do what they want with impunity, it IS the American way.

Do what you want to so long as it doesn't affect me, my pocketbook, or my ability to may my own freedom of choice decisions.

with that said, I don't use a helmet either, but it has been a few years since I have had a bike.

btw, REALLLY nice bikes guys.
