Reef Club Members

I just found a reef club in my area and was thinking of joining. I was just wondering if these type of clubs are beginner friendly. I dont have frags to trade and wont have much to offer to the group, but I think it would be a great place to learn and meet other reefers in my area as I dont know anyone else who keeps a tank in my area.

Are these groups for long time reefers or are beginners welcome?

I would encourage you to join. Most reefers are a friendly bunch regardless of how long you've been in the hobby. You'll probably find that there are reefers that live very close to you that you didn't even know about.

I'm in the Atlanta Reef Club and about half of the people that come to meetings have been in the hobby a year or less.

I would agree with Rick that most reef clubs are very helpful to everyone. I know that at our first meeting we got some xenia for very cheap . I would recomend that EVERYONE either join a reef club or start one up.

The whole purpose of a club is to EDUCATE! By all means join! ARC has hobbyists of ALL ages and skill levels, and we have a great time every month!

I think you will find the atmosphere very mucy like it is here on the board, helpful and friendly

I agree with all of the above advice. We joined a group in the area about a year after we began the hobby. At first we never had much to trade, but we had some knowledge. We recieved many frags without giving anything in return. Now we are able to do the same to others. We feel that all favors will be returned in some way in the future. Even if we never get anything back from those we gave to, they will hopefulyy give frags of the stuff that we gave away to other new reefers. Being a part of a local reef community has been one of the best things we have other done. Not only have we gotten lots of frags and knowledge, but we have also made lots of great friends.
