Doug, I don't know much about this personaly but some questions I would ask before I agreed to sign up for that monthly fee is by how much speed will it increase your copnnection if you are on a dial up now using a 56k modem you probably hit a maximum of between 3 and 8 kbs (killobytes per second) DSL Speeds will be in the hundreds per second.
The cost of the average dialup connection is between 12 and 20 dollars a month dsl is between 30 - 50 a month depending on where you live.
So if this software or what ever it is only increases your speed by a couple kbs because the hardware (your modem) is only going to go so fast anyway and will never be close to dsl speeds is it going to be worth an addition 8.95 a month?
Those are my thoughts on it hope it helps
Clay
You could try the demo out and see if you think it works or not
I would just make sure I set a system restore point just in case before trying it.

Its supposedly able to utilize your avalable connection a lot more efficiently
Yes I am on Dial Up , I normally log on at 46.6 KB I live in the boonies where DSL is not an option. Wireless might be but its $400 in hardware to set up
I have DirectTV but being an existing customer they dont care, wont give me a break and I have not heard really glowing reports on there service.
I planned on DL the trial unless I hear really bad things.
Most of the time my puter is OK for surfing TRT and stuff, Downloading music takes forever but oh well. Big pics take a while. I dont expect DSL speed but if its a lot better it might be worth it

just a suggestion here, goto www.google.com and do a search on these guys and see what people have to say about it. It sounds like a scam to me, when a company starts saying it speeds up your connection by as much as 300% instead of listing an actual speed it's usually because they're hiding something. There is also a line in their faq about some patent pending technology that allows this speed, that's utter trash. According to my friends in the telecom industries technology is not what is holding back dial up connection speeds, it's legislation! There are anti espionage laws on the books that make it illegal to transmit more then something like 4.8 kbps via phone lines, now companies have gotten around this by including compression technology in their modems (v.90 v.92 etc..) sooooooo what my long winded explanation is getting at is that I don't trust these guys and I'd look into a satelite modem
Here's a link from the guys at tech tv that have a lil review of this product http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp/pr...406117,00.html

Doug here is a link to test your connection speed
http://www.dslreports.com/stest
and get your kbs results
these were my results from one of the tests I am on a cable modem
2003-03-22 19:52:52 EST: 1774 / 287
Your download speed : 1774090 bps, or 1774 kbps.
A 216.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 287583 bps, or 287 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

doug, these guys are selling trash. i probably shouldn't say that, because i have never heard of them, well, that's already one strike against them i guess.. lol.
anyway, when you say you are connecting at 46.6 kb on average, keep in mind that is your CONNECTION speed to your isp. that's not going to be your download speeds. on a standard 56k modem you are only goign to download at roughly 4 or 5 k. you can get as high as 10 or 11 k on a really really really good day. but most people only transfer at around 4 or 5 k.
even my cable connection is 512 k but my download speeds are only around 100 k.
also, as someone else said, they are not offering you an isp service, or any new hardware. you'll still be using your modem and your isp, and paying an extra 9 bucks a month for thier "increased speeds" and they aren't actually increasing your speeds. they jsut say they are sending you the data in a compressed form so it gets to you faster.
that makes me wonder. especially since they are adding in an extra hop to get the data to you.
ie: normally you look at TRT and we'll say for sake of argument, there are 12 hops to get to you. this means that TRT sends the data from thier server, to 10 different servers before it reaches your isp, and then it trickles to you on the 12th hop. now add these guys in and that's one more hop, at best. but mroe than likely it would add even more. now the data needs to go from TRT and through 9 or 10 hops to get to their proxy servers, then it needs to get from them to you, which could be another 5 or 10 hops as well.
if they have no garantees, no hardware, no software, i'd skip it. on the other hand, IF the trial is FREE and you DONT have to give a credit card or ANY personal info to test drive it. then go for it, if it DOES increase your speed, then have fun. if it doesnt then no loss.
BUT if they require ANY and i do mean ANY personal info whatsoever, in order to TRY it, then avoid them at all costs. this would tell me they are scam artists after credit card and personal info. they would care less if you used htem or not, once they get personal or credit info, that's all they want.
of course, thats only my opinion, they COULD be an up and up company.. best bet is to research them, and see if they offer the trial with no required info.

just a lil critique on the fatman here, whenever anyone is bragging about the speed of their service, they always list their speed in kilobits per second, that's not a speed rating the real world works in, the real world works with kilobytes soooooooo for instance a 56k modem is 56 kilobits but actually 5.6 kilobytes. I'm still not sure why you're not looking into a satelite setup since you're already with a satelite provider that provides high speed satelite connections.

Doug,
Take it from me please. Save your 10 bucks a month and ignore lame attempts at "Increasing your Connection Speed". Your speed is dependent on your connection to your ISP, distance from the local box, your ISPS connection to their backbone, the backbones connection to the particular website and the location of the object you are trying to recieve.
Basically what this program will do, is to tell your modem to full throttle to its highest ability 100 percent of the time. Instead of utilizing the bandwidth it is actually recieving at that time.
Really it can do no harm to your computer, in some cases it may slow it down a little as its forcing a faster update rate on a consistant basis and various other things that deal with Hardware communication and your Operating system.
If you feel like beign a DIY er I have many links and articles on how to connection multiple 56k modems together to increase your connection speed. Granted you need free PCI Slots and the desire to want to spend money on more modems if you happen to mess up
Thats my 2 cents.

BTW, those "Test your Speed" sites are mediocer at best. Again they dont take into account varoius server locations and backbone connections nor does it test a large enough packet trasfer to accurately give you results. Connections tend to start off fast (Downloads that is) and even out as TCP overhead and redundancy stop fluxuating (IE: Your packet transfer rate settles)

Your download speed : 36331 bps, or 36 kbps.
A 4.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 52015 bps, or 52 kbps.
Your upload speed is much faster than down.. have you tweaked?
Your connection hardly qualified as broadband, at least in that test

I have had DirecTv since it was Primestar, none of the promos that I hear on radio for new customers apply
Change the way you surf. Pick the way you pay.
Choose either option. Your satellite dish and modems will be delivered and installed by a certified professional.
1 Pay $579.98 now, then just $59.99 a month
Hardware & Installation Monthly Charge*
OR
2 Pay a $99.99 initial fee, then just $99.99 a month for 12 months.** After one year, monthly charge reverts to regular rate.
Hardware & Installation Monthly Charge*
* Requires a one-year commitment;
early termination fees apply
On top of $60 worth of Sat TV I never watch I am moe apt to sell the ranch and move into town, heck in a few more years I can get senior housing

I used Proxy-con for a short while. One of the guys on the help desk is a COMPLETE AND TOTAL JERK!!!!! I did notice an increase in the speed. It however started doing "weird" things to my computer. When I questioned that......He refunded my money and BANNED ME FROM IT!!!!!!!
In my opinion it is a TOTAL waste of money. Dial up is slow. Period. I tried all kinds of "speed it up" programs and nothing worked. So I bit the bullet and got a cable modem. All I can say is ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!
HTH
