Puppy Up[date!
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick puppy update... Cleo has had 5 babies so far. Sadly, as I suspected one puppy was still born. It was the second one born and even worse I think I could've done something about it. When it was being delivered I thought about helping Cleo get it out. I think it was in the birth canal too long and suffocated. It was avery large baby.
The other four are doing very well as is their mother. So far 2 Black babies and 2 Brown babies! She started birthing at 0530 and it os now 0905. Cleo is still pretty swollen so I'm sure we'll have more babies soon. I'm hoping she has some yellow pups too!
Will keep ya'll updated as the day goes!

Don't know what to do... she's had 3 more pups and two of them were still born. I've never had this happen before. I'm at a loss.

Sorry to hear about the puppies, how is Mom doing? Is she stressed about the puppies that are stillborn? Did you call your vet? I hope the other 5 are doing ok, we would love to see pictures. Good luck, I will cross my fingers for the rest.

Sheryl, thanks for your kind words... the Mom is doing great.. she is four years old and this is her first litter. I just got back from the vet, I bought some oxytocin.. he feels the pups are in the birth canal too long and this should help. She has already had 8.. so I'm not sure if she'll have more today. Labs usually have between 8 and 12 in a litter.
I'm the one that's stressed.

8-12?!!! How are the 5 little ones doing? I have only been around cats giving birth, I can't imagine 12 puppies. How big are they? You better hide your shoes and socks I hope the medicine works and that you can get some rest with the babies

What's the latest, Jim? I hope the medicine from the vet helped!

I'm afraid I live too far from town and by the time I got back with the oxytocin she had lost 4. But 5 did survive and they are all brown! I guess I'm a bit color blind. LOL
If I breed her again I have plenty of medicine on hand now and I shouldn't have that problem again. It is my belief that dogs shouldn't be bred more than twice I think it puts too much strain on them.
The new babies and mother are doing great. It is the dog in my avatar that had the pups. I've had many many dogs and this is the first dog where I've allowed for people to identify me as her "daddy". She is that awesome.
