Geekstogo recommends 2 excellent shareware programs that don't cost anything to the consumer and are updated on a weekly if not daily basis...

Personally, I have the Adaware and Spybot S&D along with a few other advanced versions of some of the software for Spybot for the ad stuff, and ewido security suite fo handle some of the more aggressive trojans, etc. I am not plagued by slowdowns or the misc. other redirection issues associated with these internet infectious items. In addition to these safeguards, I would suggest that you install both a hardware and software firewall, this will stop many of these types of issues from becoming problems, so long as you keep everything updated (your OS in particular) and use common sense when answering and opening email.
