Plasma v.s. LCD Tv.
Im looking at getting a new tv in the 42 inch range. I've pretty much narrowed it down to two Tv's one is a plasma the other is LCD. i've heard good things about them and no that the Plasma is better for movies, and LCD is better for video games. Which do you think would give me the best of both worlds and why?

I am no expert and I don't own either, but I do know that the LCD is more proven and gets better ratings. No one really knows how long these Plasma's are going to last right now.
Good luck and enjoy!

I guess at sea level you still have a choice. I know that at our altitude there was a major issue with plasma and the high-end shops around here have pretty much quit carrying them to avoid the warranty hassles.

it depends on what you plan to watch
regular (non-hi-def) tv I'd go with a plazma
nothing but hi-def LCD would be cheaper for the same look

Do you have a lot of windows in the room where you will put it? Most plasma's have a glossy screen which will reflect in a room with lots of light. LCD's tend to have less gloss. I too bought a 42" Vizio back in August. Absolutely love it! I did tons of research before I bought it, and IMO it is as good as any of the "high end brands" I looked at. The only issue is that it is 1080i not 1080p so it won't do bluray. I don't plan on going bluray for a while so I didn't worry about it. HD channels look awesome and with an upscaling DVD movies look really good too.

My husband is a TV nut he did a ton of research and we went with LCD's
we have a 42" LCD rear projection and 32" & 42" flat panels on the wall
HD programming is awesome on all 3 of them

Lcd is the way to go.
with plasma you can still have a burn in issue. My son loves shrek and i dont know how many times he left the title screen on the TV. I like shrek but I dont want to see him when im watching NBC nightly News. or Mcguiver reruns.
Also the lights in plasma have about a 3-4 year (25,000 hours)life and needs to be replaced. $200 bucks. And as stated above if its in a room with lots of windows plasma will reflect the light.
Plasma is better at fast moving objects like fast movie scenes.
however newer LCD models have resolved this with higher refresh rates.
I have a 52" sony bravia and it has a superfast refresh rate.
the cheaper LCD have slow refresh rates and images are blured during fast sequences. LCD's will also kick out some heat. more so than Plasma's
LCD's will last about 200,000 hours before bulbs need to be changed
LCD weigh more than plasmas and reguires very good installation if mounted on a wall.
LCD also may have pixel loss. this is when you see a black pixel in the same place on every channel. this is more common with cheaper models but is also the case with higher end tv's
LCD dont show as vivid color Black as plasma screens. and the black intensity will fade with time. this is because the floresent lights behind the screen will fade over time.(I guess we all know this)

We have alot of people who have LCD's. I agree with the glare issue for Plasma's. But i've seen the difference in color between the LCD's and Plasma Tv's. The LCD's do not have the clarity that the Plasma has, but i was standing close. Im going to have to go back and take a look from far away and not judge so closely. Jnicho i've heard really good things about the Vizios. I have friend who has a 50'', plus alot of other people say that they are very good.

For the money I don't think you can go wrong with a Viz. Part of my rational was that I could replace this TV in a few years if/when something else comes along. The higher the price tag the longer I feel I need to keep it to make it worth the investment!
