plasma or lcd?

we were looking at those big tv's and we were wondering what the difference is between the two? Doesn't one of them kinda look like a projection tv, where the other is bright and clear? We can't afford one of those tv's, but it's nice to dream.

for an affordable price you can get a crisp and perfectly clear DLP. basicly it is a projection TV with millions of mobile mirrors. I purchased a samsung DLP 61 inch pretty cheap when the technology first came out. I got it for 3200 dollars or something like that. I was fortunate that my friend owned a circuitcity and got it real cheap for me. I think that you can get it now for the same if not cheaper in any circuit city or costco.

If your choice is between a LCD and a Plasma. Go for the LCD. We have several of both at work. Several of the Plasma have burn in spot. TV Station Logos are almost always there and in the same place as well as scrolling banners on news channels. Many of the Plasmas have features that help prevent this by slightly shifting the picture every few seconds but that just delays the burn in slightly and ends up making the area larger.

Plasmas are getting more refined, and have an awesome picture. LCD and the newer emerging technologies make this a really competitive field. Quality is going up and price will fall,
By 09 analog tv transmission will be gone and HDTV t eh norm , obsoleting a lot of old crt anolog sets, the tv guys want you to buy theirs when you upgrade so its going to be fierce competition

I have a 19'' LCD in my room, and a 42'' LCD in my living room. LCD is beautiful. If i had the choice between plasma and lcd it would be lcd.

ok, we thought lcd was better. Our computer monitor is lcd, how do you clean it? I'm afraid to touch it too hard cuz then you get that rainbow effect, yipes!
Any kind of projection tv we won't even consider, we just really don't like them, they look dark. That and when the big screen projections first came out, ew, you had to stand in just the right spot or else you can't see it at all! noooo thank you. Well I hope they don't make our tv's obsolete too soon, since we just bought a "normal" 32" tv 3 years ago and paid several hundred for it, that's money that we don't throw around lightly so we'd still better be able to use it! We figure when the old console (remember those?) goes to heck up at the cabin then we'll take our fairly new tv and its stand up there, and then we'll blow a bunch of money on a new wide screen lcd... of course by then those will be out of style and something else will be all the rage... sigh.. technology!

I have a Sony Bravia, It surpassed any plasma I seen while shopping for it. Plus unlike plasma it is viewable at any angle, 17* angles and the screen goes out of view. Here are some pics of myne, this is from the antana!!! Its HD. Plus it has more expansion than nasa! I use a computer in one of the hdmi ports and I get 1080i from a computer! The options are incredible, my cable supply doesnt even carry Cable Card servese yet.

yep Mike, that's what I meant, how it goes out of view, you shouldn't have to be in a certain spot to see what's on the screen, especially after what you pay for it! We'll see what's out there in a couple years, and by then maybe we can afford something!
