Personal ID Warning
Hi everyone;
With rampant identity theft, almost everyone knows not to have your SS# or phone number printed on your personal checks. But have you ever thought about the linking ID you carry on your person at any given time?
My husband lost his wallet at the airport the other night and didn't realize it until later the next day. In that amount of time, we had charges already showing up on our accounts.
The scary part is, he had his SS card, driver's license, bank card, credit card and a couple of checks all together in his wallet. For all I know, my husband is now a brand new man walking around out there somewhere and repercussions could stretch years down the road.
I'm going to now separate my pieces of personal ID; no more carrying it all in my purse.
What's in your wallet?

It's probably a potential disaster, with

but, there's no way around having those with me.

Agreed, I am acutely aware of my wallets whereabouts at all times, in addition to all the above, I have a mandated medical card, magnetic entry card and others I have to have for work.

It seems the only way to not lose your id is to not have one!

And even worse if they get the gun out of your pocket, too!
Been through this twice....once, Elizabeth had her whole pocketbook stolen and another time, credit cards and checkbook. It's embarrassing to have your name posted on the local Wal-Mart cash registers! A person was later caught and identified as having passed a check but the actual thieves were never caught. These things are often swapped to drug dealers who sell them to others and they move very quickly through the underworld.
The most disgusting thing was the lack of cooperation by the credit card companies. I had law enforcement ready to help me if the credit card companies would notify the detectives with the locations as soon as the cards were used but all I got were arrogant and rude replies from them that "they didn't have confidence in local law and had their own investigators'! HA! Big joke! They did absolutely nothing but the joke was on them as over $30,000 was run up at their expense! This was before the wide use of the instant-authorizing computer card devices.
If someone goes so far as to steal your identity, it's probably easier just to change your own identity than unravel the mess!
Hope you don't have any problems, Alice.

Steve always has his hands on his wallet - he's the last person I ever expected to lose it, even our kids said " DAD lost his wallet??"
Of course we all need to carry various items of essential ID with us all of the time; I was just saying don't carry it all in one place.

Do you think it would help to try and apply for a new SS ID number?.... of course i wouldn't want to have to go through the ordeal of actually getting one, and the Gov't is more likely than not to fudge the whole thing up anyway...ahhh... i dunno.
but if anyone is ever considering trying to physically steal something off me, they better have a good health insurance policy.
cause i bite

Maybe Steve 'printed' too loudly, Alice? Just theorizing.
Steve's protective habit may have suggested to a pickpocket an unusual value in the wallet, and made him stand out as a target. Sooner or later Steve had to drop his guard, and if the pickpocket had been shadowing him...
I know you'll recover from this, and that perp... well, the law or better yet a higher Authority will git 'im, and git 'im bad.
Thanks again for the heads-up !
I've since started carrying my personal info stuff separately from cash and credit cards...
Hi ya, Doug.
I carry IWB (used to go Mexican, eeek)
I'm too small (and therefore my pockets likewise) to pocket-carry without the gun printing that badly.

Horge, I carry AMT DAO Backup in .45 IWB, no mexi carry for me, NO Weapons THAT Safe
The Colt Commander sized pistol I have an IWB rig but prefer a shoulder holster, at 6' 200# in a temperate climate it's easy for me . In the heat of summer it's the smaller AMT, easier to hide in skimpier clohes and being stainless is a plus in sweat weather.

AMT Backup? Have they started making those again? Me wants!
In the field, I lug an Armscor 1911 (.45 ACP) belt-holstered.
In the city, the smaller BERSA Thunder 380 (.380 ACP), Kydex IWB.
It was the BERSA that I'd Mexican from time to time.
Manual safety, mag disconnect safety, loooooong DA first triggerpull...
Seemed safe enough until the day I found the safety knocked off and
the hammer somehow nudged into a kind of half-cock.
Bought a proper IWB holster that very week.
I take it Dick's a wheelgun man (S&W). I like that old school stuff too.

...and I apologize for the thread drift.

Sorry about your trouble Alice. Make sure you make copies of the police report, notifications to the bank, CC, DMV ect and keep them with you. Its a pain but it might save you from being arrested for bad checks one day at a traffic stop.
Luckly GA doesn't put your SSN on the DL and schools have got out of that bad habbit. I never cary more than one check and its folded up in my wallet so I always get the 'evil eye' when I give it to somebody.

Dont know if the AMT are still in production, I have had mine probably 10 years now
Double action only, no safety, no exposed hammer, just that LONG trigger pull, tho mine has been tuned for Federal Hydroshocks by my firearms instructor, armourer for the local SHerriffs dept. I cant tell you how happy I was when fedral introduced their PDA line of ammo(basically a hydroshok in 165 gr 45 cal) shooting 900 fps 230gr in a compact that you can cover with your hand is not fun

We found Steve's wallet. It fell into the track of the car seat, out of reach of a sweep by fingers and a flashlight. I found it when the car seat wouldn't adjust.
I'll probably be relieved once I get over being annoyed.
...but hold that thought until I can finally get the banking mess straightened out. Grrrrrr.
