(ot) new kitten!!
if anyone remembers, a couple months ago my cat gave birth to a kitten who didn't survive.
well the owner of my cat's "boyfriend" has given me custody of her male & female for the summer while she is on a road trip vacation. the female had a littler a few weeks before mine, and of course, it was the same papa cat for both litters..
today she stopped by with my "present"...i had no idea it was coming, tho her & my boyfriend had discussed it & she knew i was going to get a companion for my cat after hers left when she returned...what a wonderful surprise she brought me...
i got a beatiful siamese baby girl, about 2 & 1/2 months old, for no charge!! (but we can call it payment for me taking care of her cats for the summer ) my cat is ADORING the new baby, really treating it as though it were a replacement for the baby she lost. she's been grooming it all day & not letting her out of her sight....after all, she is really the "step mother" and the biological mama cat has had enough with the kittens after almost 3 months & is having no problem letting my delia kitty take over in the "mom" role. and i was bawling my eyes out when she gave it to me, she's gorgeous. double paws..sweet little face with big blue eyes..i'm thinking with these double paws she's a mutant, so i'm gonna try & give her a name from the x-men...either rogue or phoenix, i'm leaning more toward phoenix (they aren't like regular double paws, almost like *double* double paws)
anyhoo, now i have 4 CATS in my house!! yikes! if anyone tries to mess with my new fish tank, i think they'll be in for a face full of claws!
 mwahahahahahahahaha

Great on the new kitten, Ann-Marie. Double paws? I never heard of such. Does that happen to particular kind of cat?

spam,
Congrats on the new kitten! I bet she is adorable! Do you mean she is a polydactyl (5 toes)? Post pics when you can!

Isn't it true that Hemingway had cats that had 5 toes? I've heard that 5-toed cats are decents of Ernest's cats. Course, mebbe that's a legend....

cath,
I believe you are correct about Hemmingway. His compound on Key West is overflowing with 5 toed cats. Not sure if all others are decended from these. But Ernest did keep these anomolies specifically.

I used to have the neatest solid black cat, rescued from the Humane Society, and of Siamese origin, I'm sure, and he had TWO extra toes on each front paw! His name was Shane and he would sit at a glass of milk and carefully dip and lick his paw until the milk was GONE! No kidding. I have a photo of this somewhere... that was back around '78.
Enjoy your kitties, Anne-Marie!

Shane - dipping for milk
Here's Shane...dipping for milk. The glass was nearly empty when I took these...He'd start with about an inch of milk left.[IMG]

That's what Shane had, two extra on each front paw...and so did his two siblings at the shelter. It was hard to bring home only one, but that was all I could afford at the time...
He was strictly a housecat, so was eventually declawed, at no extra charge!
Have a happy day, Anne-Marie!

What I think is amazing is that Shirley found a picture from 1978. I can't find pics I took this morning much less ones I took 20+ years ago.
Cool cat Shirley.
