OMG!!! Car Parts!
every now and then I get surprised when I get parts...
4 O2 sensors for the bimmer, and mind you, I spent the better part of 4 hours searching for the price...
$122... EACH
The "Stealer wanted $244 each for them...
I kept getting check engine lights after the last track session, ran the numbers and checked OBDII messages, sure enough, the units had very slow response times...
OUCH!!!

I remember my O2 sensor in my Scirocco used to be a plastic cap over a metal tube that kept wearing out - $60 a pop until my buddy shoved a piece of bubble gum in the tube!! Ran great til the day I sold it!! Whatever works...

Now, back when they built "real" cars, I could get a clutch re-lined after a weekend at the drag strip for $25!! No O2 sensors; computer modules; vacuum hoses; etc. Just 348 ci; 3 carbs, mechanical linkage, and raw power!!! The whole '59 Chevy convertible cost less than a new transmission does today! Like Dave's bubble gum 'fix', with a pair of pliers, screwdriver, and set of wrenches, you could rebuild the whole engine!!
[not mine, but just like it!)
Except mine had fender skirts; tube chrome grill; spinner hubcaps; outside chrome headers with cut-offs; full-race Duntov cam; 4-speed; 456 rear end; 12" GMC truck clutch; and 16" racing slicks for the weekends!!
Those were the days!

...curb feelers, fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror. And on the weekends a deer carcass tied to the hood.

Didn't have any of those things, Rick, but there was an occasional "dear" inside!

Dick i knew you had good car taste,,,,make it a El Camino in that year and i'm set!
Bummer Tom,,But ya knew a Bimmer was not cheap to feed
Ditto on the cost of complexity of vehicles today, I was a GM service tech , many moons ago, and my '03 Silverado is down right scary.
I mess around with my '65 GT-350, just to keep my fingers nimble, and to remember the "ol days" LOL

I saw that show too Doug...on A and E or something. That car is funny looking but not as bad as the Enzo.
Tom, just put a piece of tape over that warning light and you are fixed for about 10 cents.

Rookie! LOL
I learned removing the bulb works as well,or replacing the "check engine" signage with"drive faster"

My 69 Chevelle had a 427 with lots o goodies. The best part was you could crawl into the engine bay to work and if you got tired just take a nap on the spot! There was an echo in there even with a big block!

Heh, that MIGHT have worked before OBDII and the guys at the Regensburg plant began to squeeze every bit of energy out of a drop of gasoline. Now, without proper feedback from both pre-and post-cat O2 sensors in each headder/exhause line, the fuel injector maps will fall back to a very rich "limp-home" mode...
Yeah, for $500 I think that I will go for the 100 WHP per litre option...
still so hard to believe that these little spark-plug-sized items are so expensive...

The Saleen is a nice looking car, very striking in yellow. My 12 yr old grandson loves the Enzo, I dont like the pointy front.
I still love the Ford GT, it was kewl then and they didnt ruin it on the reintro, tho I can't understand why the dont offer to 6.o V-10 Shelby built for his new concept cobra, now that would be a screamer
Oh and as much as I love blue, the GT has to be white with blue stripes

I do recall a little joke that has similar lessons on economics:
Q: Why would anyone spend $10,000 on a divorce?
A: Because it's worth it.

Oh yeah...my last few cars for maybe 20 years were VW buses. The bugs were too much work as you had to jack up the rear end to drop the motor which added five more minutes to the process. One floor jack and maybe ten minutes in the bus to get the engine out and with a day of work off you go...a new motor including main and cam bearings and everything else you need for a while for maybe 500 bucks tops. Also, you could clean the cases in a bucket of Simple Green in the garage then run them through the dishwasher split in half.
I want to buy an old BMW motorcycle now just because you can rebuild the motor with it installed just because.
