OK..Now THIS is Just Weird!!
As most of you know, I'm a licensed electrician, and I think I'm pretty good at it, but this has me puzzled...
I have a 24" fluorescent light over my sink. It's an older style with a starter. When I get up in the morning and flip on the switch the light WILL NOT come on, until I open and close the refrigerator door! No...I'm not loopy. I've tested this dozens of times.
I'm sure there's some weird electronic reason why this is happening, but I'm ready to call a priest!

Maybe it's remotely related to reef lighting.....anybody else out there has the tank lights turned on by the fridge door?

Try changing the starter or maybe it's lose in the socket and the vibation moves the bimetal enough to light(like we use to hit the headlight to get it to work again on the car(filament)).

It's definitely not a vibration thing. I've tried the banging. Basic Man Tools..."If it doesn't work...WHACK IT!!"

It's been running fine for years. This just started about a month ago. It's probably the starter.
I'm just not sure if I WANT to fix it! Kinda unique, you know?

Better break out the foil hat and watch out for lights in the nite sky!
That is just too styrange, Does the light in the fridge gout when you close the door?

The electrons at your house must not be morning electrons. Takes a little more juice to get them going.

COLD FUSION... :sc15:
Are both on the same breaker? Fluoro's sometimes need a little pulse to the ballast as it wears out when it is right on the edge of dieing, if they were on the sme breaker this might occur due to the capacitance of the branch with the refrige...
Totally a shot in the dark.
I have a pair of those bedside lamps that you touch to turn on (uses body capacitance to switch over a relay triggered by a transistor), it will sometimes turn on when the fan in the bathroom is cut on then off.
