Sadly the only way he doesn't break Aaron's record is if someone pulls a Harding on him. Maybe we'll get lucky and his batspeed is gone, his knees are shot, and he's got cataracts.

I really hope so. He only had 26 HRs last year, so hes obviously been decreasing in huge numbers. But thats assuming this is his last year, which I really hope it is. Maybe he can pull a ken caminiti.

I think McGwire should be there because of the humanitarian efforts his children's foundation has done in St. Louis. I believe that the McGwire/Sosa home run chase may well have saved baseball from a greedy players union! I KNOW that ANY day in ANY MLB park that McGwire was in the lineup, 20,000 more fans bought tickets and came! I believe that he should be in the Hall because he DID NOT LIE to Congress.....evasive, yes, liar, NO!

Who cares if hes a good guy? Its not the hall of good guys. Ty Cobb was a racist, a womanizer, and an all out bad guy. But hes deservingly in there as well. So I guess since, I dont know.... Craig Monroe is such a good guy, he should be in the hall of fame too. Its the HALL OF FAME.
Though I do believe they saved baseball when they were going on their wynstrol, HGH, Juiced ball, Balco ridden tear, McGwire, Sosa and Bonds helped rebuild the sport. It definitely went downhill after the strike.
You can lie to congress, you can be honest with congress, you can all of a sudden forget to speak english in front of congress like Mr. Sosa. If you cheat, and you get caught, you are a cheater.
Mark McGwire is a first ballot hall of really good-er

When we got the Diamondbacks here in AZ I tried really hard to try and change my loyalties, but in true AZ fashion we trade everyone and those they keep get treated like dirt when thet get "old" Luis Gonzales anyone? forced into retirement 1 year before his contract ended!!! AZ won the series so we traded everyone so AZ does not have the Diamondbacks we have the Traderbacks!!!
I love all the classic ball clubs who respect their teams, while I might not be a fan of these teams but the Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox and so on. They take care of theirs!

Those are different markets. The Cubs, Yankees and Redsox have the bank to do so. The Dbacks dont. A lot of teams dont have the luxury to do so. Luis was getting very old, and had a bad back.

We love spring training in AZ. I get to the physicals for the baseball teams while they are here in Az for spring training.

dbacks have money. Luis was older but we kept matt williams much longer than him. They took luis out for breakfast and told him 2 games before they let him go. That was pretty jacked up, after everything he has done, he is involved in alot of charities here and the little leagues.

OK kids, sports fandom is almost on the edge like religio/politics, it's areally thin line between fandom and chaos. I am not bagging on anyone or pointing fingers, just a friendly reminder to keep feeling in check and conversation civil, Thanks

You would consider the best reliever of all time, Mariano Rivera, replaceable?!? Take that guy and Jeter away (and of course Paul O'Neil-but he was not a Yankee from the beginning) and the Yankees win 0 Series in the 90's. You could replace Mariano with any number of good relievers, but few are as clutch under pressure as him...and to do it for as long as he has is remarkable.
And as far as Bernie goes, you are underestimating the value of leaders in the locker room...Bernie is a quiet guy that did his job every day and never complained. Same with Posada...
Thats what makes things great, a HARD salary cap (again, there is a cap in baseball). I love the turn over in football. I love how you really have to manage talent, decide who to keep, who to cut loose, who to pick up. You actually have to budget, unlike baseball. If there were a salary cap, Gil Meche wouldnt make $16m a year, thats for sure.
There are alot of bargain players who make less than $5m a year, who arent necessarily rookies. Its still about budgeting, and getting value in a player. Alex Rodriguez, probably the best 3B in the league, offensively. But for $25m a year, hes not the value say a david wright is for less than $10m a year. Same with Jeter, he makes around $20m a year, and Jose Reyes makes about $5m (before the contract extension). So whos a better bargain?
Again, you are underestimating the value of leaders in the locker room...I highly doubt Jose Reyes provides the team leadership a guy like Jeter does, is he a quality SS, of course, but is he a leader...doubt it. And I could take or leave A-Rod...I wanted so bad for him to be awesome for the Yank's but he is not clutch...he can put of the numbers, but it is never when it counts.
If teams dont pay these players huge amounts of money, then there wont be this huge, disgusting demand for huge payrolls and salaries.
Trust me...no one agrees with this more than me...but the agents are the ones cutting these deals and it is a slippery slope...the more you lay down, the more the next guy is going to ask for and IMO, Texas started this crap with their deal to A-Rod...that was ridiculous!
