New Years Good luck food
I'm fixing a good luck dinner for Dad, Bobbi and her husband today. And since our collective traditions are varied, we're going to cover several bases
Pork and sauerkraut (my PA Dutch heritage)
Hoppin John (rice and black eye peas, veggie style) a SC Low Country favorite
Mustard greens (Southern, and because I couldn't find collards)
Cornbread - by the Grace of God Southern
Mashed potatoes - good anywhere you go
Lima beans - same there
Oh, and some chamgane to smooth it down.
My mother's family used to have oyster stew, but we're not doing that.
What's on your plate for today?

Hey Cath.....our menu is fried chicken, collards with smoked ham hocks, corn bread, macaroni and cheese, and sweet potato pie.
(Yes, some of us "northerners" can cook, too....

since i am the cook in the house....
i am going with a few porter house steaks in the grill ( i never stop grillin') with sauted mushroom and sweet onion. the steaks are going to be cajaun cooked ( blackend with my mix of seasoning). i picked up some nice size mushroom caps that i will stuff with a home made crab imperial. and just some ice tea for the kids and a cold( ice cold) beer... oh we are also having some streamed clams in a little bit. it is a nice football snack!

well, I have no recipie to share at this time.. for me today..going to Mongolian Barbecue place for lunch...just have a craving for it today. Had Chipotle for dinner last night.
As for the cornbread I saw someone making..may I make a suggestion?
The cornbread my mom always made that rocked was taking a box of Jiffy Cornbread mix, a box of Jiffy yellow cake mix, and mixing those two together. You get a sweeter cakier cornbread that is just awesome. It is basically like the cornbread at Boston Market...umm..that sounds good to. heh heh

That's an interesting recipe, Jeremy; I may have to try that. I'm sure it has generations of Southern women turning over in their graves but it sounds good.
We're just having standard turkey dinner here today; I'm taking tomorrow off from cooking so left overs are a good thing!
Last night I cooked marinated steaks, sauteed mushrooms and shrimp, scampi style. I figured since we weren't going out I'd splurge a bit.
