need some computer help
I bought a new laptop last week cause my old one froze up on me. The new one has Windows Vista Home edition and for some reason, I just can't get it to connect to the internet at home. I can connect to my wireless network and it says there is nothing wrong with my connection, but then it says IE cannot display the webpage. Same thing happens when I simply plug the broadband connector into the laptop itself. I know I'm connected to the internet because my desktop is connected (as you can see, I'm posting on TRT). Any thoughts on how to fix this problem?

I had this issue when I setup a friends computer,.. I had to run the wizzard in Vista and put in the username and password for her Cox cable internet connection then it went without a hitch.

Usually you have to kick the snot out of the stupid paper clip in word for everything to run right... I hate that stupid paper clip... Always popping up saying things like "it looks like your writing a ransom note" and "I can't believe your looking at that stuff again".
Since I removed the paper clip to a tropical destination with new foot ware, Vista runs so much better

It sounds as if your router is not assigning your computer an IP address; which means you have to assign your own or configure the router to be a DHCP server.
Since it's working now I guess the following doesn't really matter, but I will post anyway.
I set up all my networking stuff manually; but the wizards will help you get through all the mess without having to learn anything.
Go to your "Control Panel" then go to "Network and Sharing Center" then "Setup a connection or network" click what you want; follow all the steps and you should be online.

I had the same issue with a new desktop. It would connect right away then when you would navigate away from the original page there would be no internet recoginition. After consulting the Vista wizards ( IT pros) it was decided to go back to XP. Was worth the effort. I guess this is another fine windows product that was out before being developed. Good luck.

Yeah, I really didn't want Vista, but it was already preloaded onto the computer.

Actually I love vista... I've never had a windows based PC run so smooth... I only wish that a lot of my own programs ran on the platform. I do like a lot of the little vista tweaks once you start playing around
