my husbands bear pic, no flaming please
I say no flaming because I realize there are anti-hunters out there and I'd just assume not get jumped on by them. If you don't agree with it them please just close this post and have a good day.
For those that are interested, here is Kevin's bear! He got her at 6:30pm opening day with bow. It was a good clean shot and he found her right away. She's a small sow dressed out at 130 lbs, but he always said that he'd trade a big bear for a bear with a pretty white chest, and he couldn't believe his luck when this beauty came in. The pics don't do her white chest justice, it's just gorgeous.
She will become a half mount and all of the meat will be processed, we do use what we harvest. He waited 9 years for this tag and I'm so proud of him!

I have no problem with hunting when the animal is used for food. What I have a problem with is hunting for pure sport and then leaving the animal to rot. If you kill it you should eat it imo. What do you mean by half mount? It is a beatiful bear but how much to mount something like that? I just about died when it cost $65 to do a bass!

Jena, people that do that are poachers, not sportsman. I won't get into the ethics, that's not why I posted, just wanted to share our good fortune with those that may appreciate and understand it.
$65 for a bass is dirt cheap! Here it's usually $4 per inch or more for a fish. A half mount is just that, the front half of the bear, she will look like she is walking out of the wall while looking off to her left. If you'd like to see a pic of that let me know and I will post one, otherwise I won't. It'll cost over $600, full mounts are around $1200.

Up here Jess the wages are really not all that great and the fall elk is pretty much stores for meat when a lot of folks cannot work outside during the winter. Bears though are different and it is pretty much almost a hanging offense to kill a grizzly. There are a couple of guys doing serious time for shooting mom and her cub last fall.

thanks for the nice replies! He did bring his pistol with for safety reasons, and in case of a poor bow shot then he'd still have a way to put her down, but that wasn't necessary. I will post a pic when I get home of the mount we're getting, since you asked. It is the front half of the bear.
Perry, I hope those poachers were nailed right through the wall for that! Glad they were caught and prosecuted. It's people like that who make people think all hunters are bad... there are many of us who love the beauty of nature and we do respect the animals that we harvest, making every effort to recover and process them as best we can. Here we have "hunt for the hungry" which means during deer season, gun and bow, people can give their deer to the food pantries to stock up on meat for the needy. A good program, but I tend to only harvest what we will use, and we give meat to my grandpa as well.
We don't have grizz here, thank goodness, but we do have to deal with those darned wolves again.
