My home stereo CD player just died :( Looking for home stereo advice
My CD player died today. Ill spare you the details of why but just say its not repairable.
I will tell you that the rest of the system consists of a Integra DTR 7.7 receiver, Mirage OM-7 mains, Paradigm monitor 7 backgrounds, a 500 watt Paradigm sub, everything WBT connected and powered by a NAD 218 THX.
For anyone who any of that makes sense to, its a pretty decent system and I can with clarity shake my neighbors windows should i feel the urge.
The local dealers in my town are rapists. Where should i go online to buy and what should i buy??
I dont have a ton of expendable funds right now, but Id still like to replace it with something nice. I MIGHT even be willing to go with a nice used player to get me by. Are there any good forums or places to safely find a higher end cd player used??
Would defintely be willing to let someone pick through my tanks should they have a wholesale connection and need FRAGS. j/k....kinda
Any input from the home noise geeks out there??

My best advice is to buy a turntable.

Have one in a box with a few hundred LP's in the garage. Wont ever get rid of it, but not sure when it will ever get used again.

When it comes to ANYTHING electronics...Crutchfield is an AWESOME company. Call them/view on-line/etc.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-x7c4mxCOuqu/
They have reviews, GREAT customer service, everything man...
They'll steer you right.
My PERSONAL opinion? Only SONY equipment....and I'd just get new. Repairs cost almost as much, and don't last very long.

Brands I've had with good success - Sony and Mitsubishi. Bad quality - Panasonic and Samsung. JMO YMMV.
I used to buy only Panasonic but within the past twenty or so years their stuff has turned to crap. When I was looking for a new flat screen last year Panasconic had some really nice looking models and good prices, but after being burned on a few VCR's and a couple of cordless phones I struck them from my list.

I don't "get" the whole superiority of Vinyl over CD thing After you spend major $$$ on a direct drive turntable, then more big $$$ to upgrade to the latest carbon fiber tone arm and headshell, you still get to spend more $$$ on the latest greatest high end moving coil cartridge or whatever is the state of the art now. Now that you have spent a boatload of money to get the end all be all setup, you can now slap a prolly warped vinyl LP on the turntable and enjoy all those annoying click, pops, skips and all, but basking in the "warmth" of vinyl that CD cant replicate.
thanks but no thanks, high volume digital music storage play systems are one techno jump I love

I am not spending anymore money on electronics till my kids are older. Let's see:
vcr, trash due to pb and j sandwich
20 vcr tv, got it to work but only using a remote that was full of coins, paperclips, even some marbles.
my 32 inch tv/dvd combo fixed thank god! Oh they shoved 4 dvd in at once
Best yet: the 65 big screen has a huge scratch on it from my son using it as a race trac. We did order a replacement screen protector but will wait till I am sure he is out of his destruction faze to switch it out.
Agree crutchfield rocks!

That is one thing i have learned... if the electronics are within range of kids.... they will be behind lock and key.
Fly, I agree with just getting a sony. I would sell you my entire setup but it doesn't look like you would need everything. I have a headphone jack attached to my phono input so i can just plug in my IPOD when needed. you can probably just get a Target or Walmart special too. they shouldn't be too bad.

My Dads got a sweet dennon set up. Its great stuff.
I will probably end up getting a mid grade level sony or similar to get me by for a while.
My NAD amp pushing these Mirage OM-7's puts out some pretty impressive sound.

it really does not matter which one you get as long as it has digital out. you can always just use the DA/AD converter on the reciever. i have a Yamaha right now. works fine. i have had Denon's in the past, also great. the only reason why i replace digital sound sources is to keep up with the different standards. i figure i will be replacing the Yamaha soon with a multi player that does HD soon.
B&K Reference 30 preamp
Acoustat Monitor 4 mains
DIY surrounds
EV Center
2 8' subwoofers for stereo
1 12' sub for movies
various amplifiers to power it all
yamaha digital source (does not matter using the B&K for conversion)
for LP's i have a B&O RX-2. the important thing about vinyl is getting the discs clean. i have a DIY LP vacuum that sucks out all dirt, making them sound extremely good.
the superiority of the vinyl comes from a couple of thoughts.
1) by the time CD's came around vinyl has been around for 50years. they sound engineers have figured out exactly how to make a recording sound its best.
2) there is not any compression on vinyl you get a huge frequency response. your limiting factor is the needle. CD's have a limit on the amount of information they can hold.
