My dog Jake :(
I just had to share this with my good friends here at TRT. It's been a rough past few days for my wife and I after losing our "son". You see we don't have any kids and our dog Jake got all of our attention.
After 13 1/2 years I had to put my dog down on Thursday. He had been suffering with arthritis and severe nerve damage in his neck that eventually paralized him. It started about 6 months ago with trouble in his back legs. He had a hard time getting up and would fall over when doing his business in the back yard. About 6 weeks ago he stopped walking all together and couldn't even stand. The nerve damage was so bad he needed pain pills just to rest comfortably. A speciallist recommended that we put him down because the required opperation that probably wouldn't work and would be too stressfull on his body. His muscles had withered away and he lost a lot of weight. We decided to relieve him of his pain last Thursday. We had him since he was 7 1/2 weeks old.

So sorry for your loss Bob
Know what it's like, same boat as you, no "two-legged children",,,
Had to make that same decision a couple of times myself,,,never easy,,
Jake had a good run tho,and i'm sure a great run of life and happiness with you both.
Think of the good times, it'll help,,
So sorry,,,, sniff,,

I'm so sorry!I've been there to many times. At least you have your fond memories of him.I have two rotties that are getting up in age and can't think about it yet(but I do!)Hope you find a new pup that will help.No dog will replace him ,but you'll find other things that are great with this one.Try a rescue dog and you'll be saving a life!I did and mine was abused and every night she gives us a lick to tell us thanks for saving me!It gives me a WARM smile every night she does it!

Oh no, Bob!! I'm so sorry to hear about Jake! Our collective TRT hearts and embraces are right here for you.
I agree with what the other said...as soon as you can, recue another dog and he'll find a loving home with you and your wife.

Thanks guys for your support I do want to get another, maybe even two if the wife will agree. While it is hard to deal with right now, I know it will get better. I never thought I'd cry so much over the loss of a pet.
Rick, I remember when your Jake passed last year

Bob,
I'm so sorry about Jake. It's a shame that dog people don't live as long as their human family but they sure do share love and friendship while they're with us.
Knowing that we've been through this ourselves doesn't make it easier for you but can help you to understand that we care. My eyes still get wet whenever I think about my beloved "Princess" and she's been gone nearly 15 years.
Take care, my friend, and I know that whenever the time is right to adopt another four-legged child, it will be loved.

Thanks again guys, all the kind words of understanding really help. We were finally able to put away all of his toys and bed so hopefully we are ready to move on (slowly).

That's a good start to the process Bob,,
Yer gonna smile (and cry) when you bring out the toys for the hopefully new pup/dogs(s)one day, and see it/them go for a certain toy and think :"That was Jake's fav toy", Think of it as Jake's way to make you smile again,,,
Sorry Bud, I know what you both are going thru,,,been there,,

Bob,
Sorry to hear that. Just went through the same thing with one of my "kids". It's a hard decision to make, but it's worth knowing they aren't suffering anymore.
