Memorial Day
just wanted to share. i wrote this while on vacation last year.
I remember my friends, The ones that senselessly died,
On that day in Somalia, when they fell by my side.
They were good men. So why wasn’t it me?
I guess the only answer, is it wasn’t meant to be
While pinned down overnight, in those filthy dark shacks,
We counted our ammo, and watched each others backs.
When the dawn became near, and the sun broke the sky,
We all knew it was time, to get back out and fight.
We had to move quickly, and make a good run,
But due to injuries, that wasn’t possible for some.
But rangers never leave, a fallen brother down,
So we picked up the injured, and carried them through town.
We ran as fast as we could, to reach the convoy,
While dodging bullets from kids, who had guns instead of toys.
Most made it home, safe and alive,
Others died on the field, I guess it was their time.
They paid the ultimate price, for the freedoms we hold true,
They died for their country, for the red white and blue.
I think about them often, especially in May,
And I remember all my fallen brothers, each Memorial Day.

Outstanding Jay, They are all green on the outside but red on the inside.
I ask everyone to take a few moments when gathered with family and friends, put down the hotdog and soda, and take a few minutes to remember the granfather, uncle, father, brother, sister, mpther that wore the uniform and stood the watch.
Remember them fondly if they are gone, hug them and thank them if they are there. Pray for the ones still out on deployment.
Those People, ladies and gentlemen are why we enjoy the lives we do today

I remember serving overseas and being away from family and loved ones! It's not an easy thing while serving your country but serve it I did. Was proud to see the 3rd Infantry Division in Iraq(my old unit in Germany).
My father and three brothers and I served in the armed forces! I pray for all our men and women in uniform where ever they may be and that they be brought back home safely!
Doug you hit home with the appreciation and Jay your poem was outstanding! Thanks to all TRT'ers who have served!

Jag rules for us Navy guys, but Black Sheep is my all time favorite. I rented that Jack Nicholson flick "The Last Detail" tonight. I love those old Navy movies!!!
That was great stuff Jay. I wish I could've been there to get you guys' backs. Happy Memorial Day.
Matt.
