I would advise if you are unhappy at your current job to leave. I hung in a year too long much to the detriment of my stomach and probably my liver.
There have been a bunch of jobs that were just great in my past and you just need to find one. Put a resume together, clean up nice and start looking.

Nice work on getting out of that situation, some of these bosses really are complete -------- (fill in the blank ).
Good luck with the job hunt, maybe you won't have to get up as early for the next one.

My son Trevor is a 20-yr-old college student, and he was hired the day he walked into Quality Inn Suites to apply, and began training that night. He's been there since May and will return to college in a couple three wks, then work there over Christmas break. He likes it MUCH better than the grocery store job he had for the past two summers prior. And the pay is better. He did not have a resume, but did attach his grades/gpa sheet and looked nice, speaks well, has an army haircut...
Front desk work, already got one raise. Never gets weekends off, and works all sorts of 8-hr shifts since it's a 24/7 place.
He's learned the hotel business is usually looking for a few GOOD employees...
Then there's monster.com
Good Luck!
Shirley

Thanks Shirley, we have a few hotels that are slowly reopening from the hurricanes last season. I will give them a call and see what they say.

i dont mind getting up early. If you goto work early you get off early like 2pm in my case i didnt take a lunch. So you have the rest of the day to do what ever.

Trevor works 2 pm to 10 pm, 10 pm to 6 am, and 6 am to 2 pm. He's never ever been late, but 1 min late, a warning the 1st time, the 2nd time, you are sent home, the 3rd time, you are fired.
The sign by the time clock to housekeeping: If you don't know how to clock in, then go home! (they evidently kept forgetting to clock in)
Trevor, btw, likes his mgr and the owner.

I would not call. Eighty percent of jobs are found by knowing people and personal contact. For a service type job image is really important and I would go meet the manager first then tell him you wish to apply for a position.
Shirley's son did really well.

Trevor went in person, dressed medium, not superb, not bad, but has his ROTC haircut, and his college transcript (3.+?) to attach to his application, no resume, plus he worked at Kroger grocery for two summers... but they only glanced at him, his grade sheet, his availability (24/7, including weekends) and hired him on the spot. They did have to fire a couple front deks employees the couple days prior, and had a couple others walk off the job. So, he hit them at the right time, but he likes it there, he hasn't missed a single day all summer, and he plans to work there over C-mas break. He works front desk, sets up the continental breakfast, folds laundry in the room behind the desk when no one is checking in/out, does the night audit on the night shift, and is the "housekeeper" during the night shift if anyone needs extra anything. (he's the only one on the property then) It's only 64 rooms, but also *very* close to Verizon Music Center (formerly Deer Creek) which has a all the big outdoor summer concerts... so is booked pretty solidly all summer.

Good encouragement/advice there, Shirley.
Tim- I don't blame you for walking out of that kind of situation! Who needs that? Of course you want a job, but verbal and emotional abuse? No way!
Good luck on the job search, Tim.

BTW, Trevor would never tolerate disrespect from an employer... never. Correction, yes, disrespect? no.

Tim - are you looking for a job with a benefit package, or do you already have insurance? If you do, maybe you could try a local photographer to see if he/she needs some help. I know with digital cameras things are different these days, but that might be a way to work around your class schedule. Or maybe the LFS!
