Look who came to visit today
My photography isn't on par with Fishdaddy's but it's the content that counts. We held an open house in the backyard today and this nice young couple dropped by. They said they would let us know but I think we've found new tenants for the Spring.

I am so jealous!!!!
We have a few around here, and I've prayed to the bird gods that one would come set up shop in one of our houses, but no luck so far.

I've been very lucky with the bluebirds. Last year this same box had three clutches over the summer. My backyard is my own personal bird sanctuary, at one point I had 5 active nests at the same time. I love my birds.

The bird selection is very good down here in the southeast
I have a pair of red-birds that like to attack my window on the back porch LOL They've done this every season for 5 years now haha We can't figure out if they see themselves or if they are trying to get in to play on the computer or WHAT lol

Wow! Rick, that is so wonderful! Your picture is great! I've always said there are three ingredients for a good photo: 1) Content, 2) Content, and 3) Content. You score on all three points.
I don't have any resident bluebirds among my flock of backyard birds. Maybe if I put up some bluebird houses..........

We get robins by the hundreds. They feed on the ground.
I've been feeding birds for years and I never let the feeders get empty so they birds know I'm a reliable source of food.
It's good therapy.

Rick, that's awesome!
Question... how much "wide open space" as in fields are near your bluebird houses?
My neighbor bought a bluebird house, lives in the subdivision, lots of backyard birds, but no fields nearby. The Indiana Conservation booth at the flower and patio show told her that without large fields connected to her bluebird house, she wouldn't get any bluebirds... So I thought of you when she was voicing her discouragement... that was just last week! So now you have new tenants - How totally cool!!
Thanks for your input, and your awesome photo!

I have a large open back yard with woods nearby. I tried to place all of my bird boxes in a manner suggested by bird websites that I've visited. That's 5'6" above the ground, on a pole with woods behind the box and an open field in front of the box. Funny thing is the bluebirds ignore the other boxes and consistently nest in this one. My next door neighbor gets bluebirds in a box that's in a more wooded area. I don't know what the trick is but I've met a lot of people that don't have any luck attracting bluebirds. One thing I can tell you is the bluebirds will feed from the sunflower meats over all of the other seeds I have out. I've quit feeding mealworms until the babies are about a week or so old due to the expense.

Thanks for all the info, Rick. I'll pass this on to my neighbor.
Btw, you can "cultivate" mealworms real easily and without mess if you're interested...
