Lien on House

Hi guys does anyone know how to have a lien removed from property that was paid off lets say in 1985 when my father died but my mom threw away the papers saying it was paid off and the Title company forgot to take the lien off or release it? Im not even sure if they are still in business. Casey

I know that it is not that easy and not that hard, it just takes time. I would recomend if you know any realtors to ask them and or mortgage agents, they should knwo who to talk to.

Who was the lien paid to? The city/county/state? If so, it will be there in the records somewhere.

Hey Casey,

IMO I would seriously consider contacting an attorney that
specialized in leins and real estate. Citicorp will be much more
forthcoming with information then they were with you.

Good luck and don't worry everything will turn out o.k.

I suspect Lori is right, this may be a time when legal counsel saves a lot of time and $$$$$$$$$

Well im going to the courthouse today the Mortgage company is required by law I found out to send a deed of trust to the courthouse showing the property is paid off within 30 days of it being fufilled, maybe I can get a copy there, am also haveing the mortgage company do an archive search which will take up to thirty days, heres the funny part now the property was originally purchased in 1971 for $17,500 and now the lien says $300,000
My credit union just laughed and said what a joke. Casey

Casey, lucky you I work in a R/E office!! I asked my father( a pro) he says see a realtor and or a lawyer. County recorder should have the deeds, and Citicorp is trying to really do you there.
this is the office #, ask for Gary, or Lee 888-333-7099.
We're here between 9 and 5 pacific (3 hrs)
