Mighty tough OFR, there. Glad he survived.

Something a little odd about the news story:

Quote:
He furiously swam after the boat for about three miles before giving up, grabbing a buoy to a lobster trap and watching his boat drift away in roughly 300-foot-deep waters.
An 80 yr. old Diving, lobster traps, and 300' deep water don't seem to go together.

Definitely a tough OFR; amazing story.

But Dick, as long as the water is over your head, it's deep enough.

Yup Dick, it does kinda sound "fishy" ,,,,pun intended LOL
Pretty sure bug season is not in effect right now,,,mebbe it was a ol' maid buoy that got away ,,,
BTW: i saw the buoy he was holding,,,did not look like any lobster trap buoy i've ever see,,,,but i could be wrong,,,
gonna have to get out my charts,,,and see how far you gotta go to off Tavernier to hit 300ft. water,,,,
I like the part,,,"they saw him swimming towards shore,"
Da dude needs to pick up a few lottery tickets real quick!

WOW! I'm tired just reading about it! No, that's not it, I'm not fully awake yet

Yup, Jeff, he needs to do the lottery thing and then share with all us TRT members. It's the giving season, right?

Dick, where Iggy was diving, it goes from 20ft to 300ft in about 20 yards. He's on the edge.
Then you have to know the lay of the land and weather. When the front came through that afternoon, it started blowing hard from the NW first. That swung his boat around and pulled the anchor straight off the reef and into deep water. The reef line runs SW to NE.

Is Iggy one of your diving buddies? You two are about the same age!

Thanks for the clarification. I knew you would know!

I had never met him before. I had heard of him, just never met. Since this, he's become sort of a local celeb.
