it'll be read quicker here.

I got a rescue betta from petco tonight. He's in awful shape, poor guy I swear this fish is a stick with fins. He's totally scrawny. Looks like he's had fin rot recently, considering he is missing the back half of his tail with a thick area around the rim of what is missing. Same thing with the front half of his bottom fin. The part that really bugs me though is that I can't tell if he is red or white bodied. He looks almost like he'd been burned horridly with ammonia. The scales look like a pale, stressed red one would, but they also look like he could be white, since his head is white and the colour goes in a strip to his dorsal fin. So it could be either way. . .

And the employee's attitude? "oh, he's okay. All young bettas look like that." Hmmm, I've got 2 that are around 4 months each, neither fo them are scrawny. Or maybe "oh, he doesn't have any fungus on him, so he's healthy. Probably just looks sad because he wants someone to take him home with them. Though it does look like his fins just broke off there." Right. He's underweight, ANYONE can see that. . . and what sort of animal has fins that randomly break off anyway? They were rotted off >.< Oh well, I had a $2 off cupon for there, so I got him for $1 instead of $3.

I actually got their fish person into a bit of trouble. There was one night I was there that the cups were all dirty, and 2 of the guys had fungus growing on them ( ) so I told a manager, who likes fish. She knows me and said that she'd "have to have a talk" with the woman who is supposed to care for the fish, since the department has looked like **** lately. At least the cups were clean yesterday.

And I had one of those surveys that gets you $2 off you next purchase. Hehe. I'd forgotten to fill it out and decided to bring him home, but did in the store. The part that asked if you have a problem, I mentioned how their bettas always look. I've seen them with rotten tails, one in the Community system had some sort of really nasty water mold(poor guy. I went in one night and saw the guy, his fins looked like someone took a cheese grater to them, were black-ish and he had a swolen body with blackish stuff on him, wasn't velvet though. Next evening I went to see if anyone had taken care of him, since I'd mentioned it, and he was dead on the bottom, once more CONNECTED SYSTEM with 3 more bettas throughout, fins had rotted the rest of the way off. . . You could see his fin bones even ) a dead one in a container, most of them are just plain lethargic from a lack of clean water. It's almost as bad as the 2 guys I got from walmart who both died in less than a week of dropsy. Not caught here. My water is clean.

Didn't really get a good pic. In person you can really tell how different his body/fin colour is.
