I have the coolest LFS ...

I have the coolest LFS ... this is funny.

While I was building the 70 foot run down to the sump the dude at Lowes that knew all about plumbing told me that there was a Reef Only LFS about 4 miles from my house.

A month ago I went over to check it out.

The weird thing is that it is in a residential neighborhood in what used to be the corner store ... you know sandwitches, pizza, beer etc?

The weirder thing is that IT STILL IS a corner store ... minus the sandwitches and pizza. The beer, soda, chips, canned spam, cigarettes, lottery tickets etc are all still there.

It turnes out that the zoning is grandfathered for a food type store but not a reef place. So as long as it still sells groceries, I guess the reef supplies are just "pet supplies" and the fish are ... ummmm ... snacks?

The owner is great ... knows a lot ... he is a reefer first and a corner store owner second I think. I send him an email on monday asking for anything, he has it brought in on wednesday's truck and I go pick it up on friday afternoon.

Yesterday, I went to pick up my fire shrimp, some pods and a few test kits ... when I drove up he had a biig yellow sign out by the road for a special on 12 packs of budweiser ... I must have laughed for 2 minutes.

The I knoticed the store front ... left side = neon fish, signage and advertising. Right side = neon beer, soda, and energy drinks advertising.

That has to be a first.

I snapped a phone pix ... the store front is a riot ... I missed a bunch of the neon fish on the left side.

Looks just about perfect. all he needs now is bait and ammo, and maybe a good row of stuff to work on your car with.

Ha!
I bet that is why he doesnt serve prepared food!

He does say that the 2 are a good match ...
In summer, fish sales are down but cold drinks are up ...
In winter, fish sales are up and cold drinks are down.

Not a bad business model eh?

He says he has over a 100 mile fish customer radius though ...

Oh we have that too ... out on the coast of Maine there is Hussey's General Store ... I have a picture somewhere on the work PC I'll post it. The big sign along the road says something like
"Hussey's"
"General Store"
"Cold Beer"
"Guns - Ammo"
"Wedding Dresses"

What a way to boost sales, imagine a herd of drunk reefers shopping

Actually Alice and I talked about having a combined Reef shop/Celtic Pub years ago
