Welcome to my life. But only for 2 more years. Then no more!!! HAHAHA! At least it's an intermittent constant. I have to carry the thing, but it doesn't usually go off unless I'm working in ICUs. Of course, then it never STOPS going off...

That's ruff, I had a "On call" job at one time, for a VERY short time. It didn't pay well anyway.

I did it for years, I don't miss them days. Not to mention the years of getting woke up to run a rescue call because someone had a cramp or upset stomach . people call 911 instead of going to the doctor. I feel for You Doug.

I would love to throw my pager into the Mississippi, but they'd just give me another one. I kinda am getting used to it, but it'll always be a pain in the patoot.

Well i shouldnt complain, with Apria, the call outs aren't near as often, as they were with the small company , 60+ hr weeks were common back then

Didn't you ever hear of "Battery Failure"? I remember you were almost always out back then.

I spent nearly 20 years with 'the pager' and 24/7/365 on call. My phone hardly ever rings 'on business' at night now and that's a blessing at my age and disposition!

I have tried the battery failure trick, I have to carry a 4 pack of AA batts, as to the disposition, I have the option to early retire and starve
I thought I had another week of freedom, but I get it back on monday so I have duty on the 4th

Paybacks for vacation

I have that option too, but just 'signed on' for another 8 year term! The retirement sounds attractive but the starving part didn't appeal to me at all!

I spent many years carrying a pager when I worked for Cable television. It was 1 week on/ 3 weeks off. After work, I very rarely ever got to go home before 11 at night.
