Ok...thats not true. I actually like and really enjoy well behaved dogs. I cant stand dog owners whe get a dog, dont invest the time necessary and neglect or otherwise abuse their dogs. Even worse when they take the things out in public or on the river and impose on everybody around them becaue they own a crappy dog.
Knowing my feelings on this.....my crazy wife brings home this ugly mongrel of a stray last week. it stinks, its feet are bloody from walking in from wherever it was lost or dumped at and its pretty much the last thing I wanted to see at my house. The dog hangs out for a few days, no success at finding a owner and the ladies of the house as well as my 2 year old son are attached and love the dirty mangy stupid dog. Forgive me for being a jerk....i dont care......we are not getting a dog, much less this one.
We decide to drop the dog off up in washington with her parents as it isnt a bad dog.......a few more days go by and it becomes more and more apparent that this dog doesnt really suck at all. In fact considering everything it is amzing me. It had a permadent from where the owners had a muzzle on her...cant imagine why anyone would put a muzzle on this dog and it is very skinny.
So I wake up this morning and im thinking about this stupid dog.
1. It doesnt bark
2. it gives a low growl for second whenever it sees a stranger or soemthing a good dog should alert you for. doenst ever bark or yap
3. It loves my son, and even though she gets excited and jumps around a little at times she hasnt knocked him over even once unless you count the time he jumped on top of her out of the blue and he hit the deck when she moved. My son loves this dog and it not only entertains him, it protects him and is everything a family dog should be in this respect
4. she listens to me and although she obviously hasnt been trained much, she is receptive and tries to please.
5. she doesnt lick
6. she doesnt chew, thrash, drool, destroy, or go to the bathroom in the house...not once with the exception of a toy bear we allowed her to play with is pretty much toast
she does chase cats and worthless chihuahuas.....i could care less about our worthless yapping, peeing, pooping licking obnoxious chihuahua(which came with the package of my lovely wife) but i am very attached to my cats and they, like myself hate dogs. My 25 pounder ike has been attacked and is very emotional about even the presence of dogs. this chasing has to stop but even though she chases them, there is no danger involved and she is receptive and listens when reprimanded. this can be fixed I believe. If not this will be a deal breaker. the next month or so time will tell.
Being a flyfishing guide and infrequently a bird hunter, there is nothing more beautiful than a well behaved dog on the river or in the field IMO. I myself have never had nor made the time to have one of my own so I dont have one...... a river dog especially has to be an amazing well behaved animal, especially when Im charging high dollar to float people down the river and teaching them the river, how to fish or both, or just doing it recreationally. invading other peoples camps or bugging people is unacceptable.
I think that she has the potential even to be a good river dog, which I cant deny I would love to have.
yadda yadda yadda
meet mange. we now have a dog
