Hey everybody, this is Troy (Shirley's son) saying hi and giving a quick update on my situation. I am currently in the summer before my Junior year at Indiana University, and I am living in Bloomington for the summer taking a summer class and doing full-time research for the head of the chemistry department. The group concentrates on total synthesis of natural products, but for the time being I'm doing a project handed down from Proctor and Gamble to get some experience and also to earn some extra money for the group. A number of the natural chemicals that the group works with/synthesizes come from marine sources... zoanthamine was one of the chemicals they recently finished work on, and now it's being tested as a possible preventative medicine for osteoperosis (Zoanthids and other corals produce it to isolate calcium out of the water and build sclerites). But not everything is work... I'm having fun with the summer, too, and I have a lot of friends that are also down throughout the summer session.
tdwyatt, thanks for the answers on my mom's chemistry questions!
and thanks to several who helped get our cleanup crew updated... It's the first time I've been home in a while, and the tanks really look better!
Well, I'm off for dinner (ah, no fast food for a weekend!)
