i posted this is a freshwater forum (fishforums.com) to see what kinda response I would get, but y'all are smart so Im posting here too.
i have a betta that was in a 2.5g hex tank with no ugf (
undergravel filter) or airstone. i noticed his eyes were starting to bulge a little so i moved him to my community tank where I figured the water quality is better. well, the bulge has gotten worse. its in both eyes. can anyone give me suggestions what to do? thanks.

psps the ph is 7.5, temp 76, ammonia and nitrite 0, nitrates high at 40 or so. specific gravity 1.000, ha ha. weekly 5g water changes and siphoning of the gravel. lots of fish (2 rainbow sharks, 5 loaches, 1 pleco, 1 swordtail)

he is fine now. I moved him back into his 2.5 hex tank, and used the community tank water and gravel (I had dumped out the old water and gravel). then I made sure to add a little aquarium salt (1tbsp per 10 gallons=1/4tbsp) and 1.25ml melafix, which i happened to have on hand. the very next day he was all better. I treated with melafix for two more days instead of the recommended seven, then did a water change. hes doing fine, thanks for asking! by the way, i am now going to be doing 50% weekly water changes in his tank instead of the intermittent monthly changes i HAD been doing. shame on me.
