heat dog pads
so my dogs are outside... i added onto my dog house.. when we are getting to the freezing temps..they are outside all the time but still feel bad.... i would like to make them a tad warmer..especially cause my older lab is 5 and he just wants to be warmer
so i went to cabelas.. i would probably get the extra large.. i guess i should kinda measure, huh??
well besides that..anyone know of a good brand or something. i would like something to be automatic... so i dont have to set it.. i think i seen one of one of those sites...
i just want it to be safe... and not overheat them..even though i know they can get off of it..but just a good one.. please take a look and let me know what you think.... or if you have a better site...
thanks

I know nothing about these...but my worry would be that they are electric and outside. Also, if there is a cord exposed I would worry. Sorry I am not much help...is there a way to keep the dogs in the garage or something?

Sara this one looks good http://cozywinters.com/shop/kh-1000-1020.html
I'd just make sure they have space in the house to lay with out using it if they choose

if you seen my other thread.. i have the main part of the dog house.. looks just like a regular old dog house.. well we add on to it.. we extend the opening so there is like a tunnel to it..
so almost like you walk down a hallway and at the end is the bedroom.
the "hallway" is about 4-5 feet long.. and 3-4 feet wide.. so that way they can lay either in the "hallway" or the actual dog house...
i did see that one.. thats what i was think about....
thanks

so what i thought about was just having the pad is the actual dog house.. and they can lay in the heated area.. or the "hallway"

That sounds like a good plan.
I wish I could give Jazz some type of bed but for what ever reason she chews them up. She doesn't chew anything else just her bed whether it be an actual dog bed, blanket or right now an old bathroom rug

Another thing that might worry me about electric beds...
Do your dogs chew Sara? If not, no worries, but if so I would be worried that they might chew into the cords. Maybe test them out on some non-electric beds if you are not sure if they will chew.

they dont chew..they have beds out there..just not heated ones..
sometimes my younger lab chews the wood on the dog house..but not that. i wouldnt know what to do if he did.. wha ti might do is buy a blanket to put over top of that..just in case.. but i plan on taping the cord down..with like electric tape of duct tape..
but just i dunno..
its hard when a dog chews and you want to help them out..doesnt make it easy and they dont know what there missing either...

No real experience with the heating pads for the dogs, but i know they have ones that are temerature controlled, either set to stay a certain temp, or it's based on the dog laying on it,,,and regulates the temp that way,,,
Also, (sorry no links for them ) but some of these pads have a "armored" elect. cable from the pad on outwards a bit,,,so the pup will not easily chew on them , and damage the cord.. if you get one w/out armor on the cable,,,maybe you can use a section of PVC pipe to cover most of the cord..trying to think of something a bit more flexible,,,but not having any luck right now .
Most dogs,,do just fine outside, provided they are already prety much "outside" dogs already,,and that you give then shelter that is off the ground a bit,,and sheltered from the wind/weather,,,They make houses for dogs, that look just like a igloo,,and that would be great, if your dog figures out to crawl in thru the smaller opening. I know people that have these kinds ,,,and the dogs do just fine.
I kennel my German Shepherds in my pole barn (10x15 converted horse stalls,,concrete floor, those horsey bars on the top of the front wall) no heat during the winter, and i made "houses" for them to stay in,the kennels.Pretty much a box w a opening and put a rigid styro base under the floor of the boxes,,I;ve checked the boxes , after they come out of them, and the temps are a lot warmer than the ambient temp of the pole barn,,,most time they just lay out on a carpet runner i have in each of their kennels,,15 yrs of having my Shepherds this way, and they are just plain happy,,,The dogs i have now, have never seen the inside of my house,,so it's not like they miss anything i quess, plus the mini Doxies would eat my Shepherds up ,,,,if you listen to my wife LOL
Godd luck getting something that will fix your dogs up well.

yeah.. ill see what i can do.... the one i like seems to have good features - Ideal for use in a kennel, doghouse, garage, basement, porch, clinic or anywhere extra warmth is desired
- Advanced Heat Dispersion heater
- Thermostatically controlled to only warm under the pet at a comfortable 102°
- When not in use the surface of the bed will remain 12° to 15° above ambient air (room) temperature. Temperatures much warmer than 102° are unsafe for pet.
- Constructed of rugged ABS waterproof plastic with a 5-1/2 foot steel-wrapped cord
- Can lie flat on the doghouse floor or be attached to the wall
- UL and CUL Listed to assure safe operation for you and your pet
- Limited one-year warranty
seems pretty good.
the cabelas one is way more money.. warranty a year as well..but no coil over the cord.
also the cabela one is automatic.. not sure how i like that cause it will always be 20 degree warmer then outside no matter what..which is nice.. but if it gets a tad warmer..i dont want to bake the dogs.. but i the one i gave details on cause it goes with less heat when the dog isnt on it..
